Amendments 7 and 9 to House Bill 119, introduced by the Senate Committee on Finance, include a 5% tax increase on premium cigars and a 17% tax increase on pipe tobacco.
Vote is on Friday June 5th.

I wonder if this is related to our state's current budget crisis

The state is broke. We gave all our money away. Gotta do something.
The said thing is that we aren't done kicking the can down the road yet.

I'm sure a brain dead government slave like yourself wouldn't mind handing over more of your earnings to the state. You're probably looking forward to some tax increases.

They are gonna keep trying to pull money from anywhere they can without making any significant changes. These little dollars and cents are just gonna piss people off, and not make a dent in the budget deficit

State police requested an additional 30% pay raise across the board but only got 20%. They saved you 10% and this is the gratitude you have?

What about cigarettes? They should tax the shite out of those.
Posted on 6/3/15 at 9:12 pm to USMCTiger03
Holy shite.
Right now Premium Cigars are taxed at a ~41 cent rate federally and 20% rate state in just excise taxes.
Pipe tobacco is taxed a 33% rate for excise taxes.
Both are also taxed with sales tax.
If a wholesaler purchases $100.00 of loose tobacco, it'll cost him 33 dollars in excise taxes and ~9 dollars in sales tax.
SO thats 42 dollars in pure taxes, or almost a third of the product cost.

If they really were serious about the budget, they'd amend the constitution and legalize weed. But they won't do either so frick every one of them.

That is absurd. And we all know that it is cigarette smokers costing us money. Not guys smoking the occasional cigar
Posted on 6/3/15 at 9:32 pm to USMCTiger03
That's fine with me. All you nicotine addicts will gladly pay it.
Posted on 6/3/15 at 9:53 pm to Brosef Stalin
Enjoying an occasional is not the same as being an addict. Nor is the damage to local businesses something to be taken lightly.
Cocksucker.
