Agreed, but my time to peel shrimp is way longer than peeling crawfish. Boiled shrimp is an all afternoon activity.

If that’s the case, they weren’t cooked right!

yeah, I may spend $700 boiling two sacks but most of that would be for dancing girls, I'm getting them for $2.99/lb. in Tx right now

Hopefully those dancing girls don't weight more than 200lbs or that can be costly.

This is how they justify keeping the prices high.

But the prices aren't high right now.

Before you know it, $5/lbs live will be the expectation

It is half that right now.

See, the folks who bitched about high prices a month or so ago don't have much to say now that prices are down. Well, you said some things.

Have not gotten any this season.

I’m not paying the amount that is being charged for crawfish.

I’m ok without them

I wish I could sell catfish for half of what crawfish sells for off the pond bank

Interesting to see so many that don’t care about crawfish that much. I tend to agree. A company boil and then maybe 1 or 2 boils with friends is all I really need. I think I’ve come to enjoy the social aspect of crawfish more than the actual crawfish.

There seems to be a story arc developing. It’s been a running joke for years that everything results in crawfish farmers complaining.

But, the prices for the last couple years have shown that people will pay the higher prices for nostalgia alone, but admittedly prefer other seafood at recent prices.

Looking into the OT crystal ball, I think crawfish farmers are in trouble. People are eating crawfish less regularly, and that results in fewer people with that nostalgic connection.

2023 prices were the lowest they've been in 5 years and since the beginning of May prices are barely above normal and the only reason the price has held the last couple of weeks is because people pulled crawfish off the market so they would have enough to stock next years pond

Exactly. Every year and all year long. Bad news catches attention and sells.
Have you ever heard a report like this?:
“Next should be a great season with minimal hurricanes, moderate temperatures, and just the appropriate amount of rainfall”.

No you never hear that because when prices are low and availability high none of the hundreds of morons who bitched and moaned incessantly this season have anything to say.

And all you guys who "have it figured out" and said that supply was adequate and available have no clue. Hell the market is still short at this point in the season.

ETA: deltaland you got took brah.

Oh, there's a story arc developing, but it isn't the one you went on to describe.

Someone is charging you $7.85lb live and crawfish farmers are getting $1.50lb out the field. That’s the insane part.
