hands down and bar none the most overrated band of all time.
Kurt Cobain's suicide is the only reason they get the hype. period.
BS, They were not the best musicians (except for Grohl), but they connected with their audience in the art they made. The connection with their fans has stood the test of time.
I was in a popular young people's store with my son just this past weekend and guess what the only music shirt they had in the store was. That's right they were selling Nirvana shirts 30 years after the band was popular. Why would kids today still be buying Nirvana merch?
I'm no culture expert but Nirvana has a staying power that is rare to many other bands that were full of expert musicians.
Sometimes in music it's not about how great a musician you are and its more about the way you connect with your audience and the way you make them feel. Nirvana is still having an effect on people today so I don't consider them "the most overated band of all time".

Kurt was not the best at anything but being authentic and they were the perfect band for that time in history. No other band could have captured that.

Nirvana and Cobain are the most overrated band/singer of all time Yea I said it
They were just trend setters and carved out a sub genre for the next decade. Their music itself was decent but they’re no Red Hot Chili Peppers or Aerosmith.

Most overrated musician in history.

You misspelled John Lennon.

No. They weren’t. You are either completely oblivious to facts or simply have no sense of music.

Knocked off michael jackson for the #1 spot on billboard when In Utero dropped.
You realize having an album at #1 for a short period after its release does not make them the greatest band it the world at the time.
That’s like saying the movie that is #1 in the box office this weekend is better than Oppenheimer because it sold more shows this weekend.

Ok. Who was bigger in the early 90s?

Bush > Foo Fighters > Nirvana
Bush was the worst band I've ever seen live. Saw them twice and both times they put on an appalling performance.

Concerts like Lallapaloosa, and all the rest!!! Greatest time to have been a teenager. Got to enjoy the 80’s and came into your own in the early 90s.
My high school through college years ran from 1990-1998. I couldn't have asked for better timing.

Get your generations right. Boomers hated Nirvana.
Nirvana was important to Generation X.
You can downplay them now but their important in the change in music and music videos (there used to be this thing called MTV that played music videos) shouldn't be understated.
They weren't the best musicians but that didn't matter.
I'm sorry their music wasn't looped sounds over a beat with a guy asking "What's poppin'?" over and over again.

The Black album was the epitome of overrated.
And I love Metallica. I wore out several cassette tapes of Master of Puppets around 86 and And Justice for All around 88.
ETA--I love Metallica so much that everytime my tank crew would get ready to SP, I would play "Disposable Heroes" on the Abrams intercom to get my crew in the proper state of mind.

Metallica was still a bigger band worldwide than Nirvana. The Black album also got a lot of undeserved hate. I wore it out as well and, in my opinion, all the old heads that liked Metallica’s early stuff were the ones hating on it the most.

GNR was probably still selling more records in 1991. They released their Use Your Illusion albums the same year Nevermind came out.
1991 and 1992 were an absolute EPIC two years in rock history. Metallica Black, Nevermind, Use Your Illusion, STP Core, AIC Dirt (and I am sure I am forgetting others).
However, GNR and Metallica were sort of the old school of rock. Nirvana and their ilk were ushering in the new school much to the chagrin of Axl Rose who often talked shite about Nirvana.
