100% correct, especially if he’s even asking the question

Are the Mannings members? If not, would they be eligible? If not eligible, how many generation before a Manning would be eligible?
Say Elon Musk decides to move to New Orleans. Would he be asked to join?

Does that include this year's Rex?

The lack of understanding of New Orleans Krewes, especially old line Krewes is profound, but not shocking. There are many societies and Krewes that traditionally act klandestinely. It is done intentionally. So, we shouldn't admonish those that are trying to see it from the outside looking in.
*Please note, the I am just an observer, not a participant by choice. However, I have been a fly on the wall to many conversations of Krewe members of all the Krewes listed below.
The dumbed downed version if you are looking from the eyes of a blue blood New Orleans family (once again, not me personally):
Comus, Momus (there are other societies not well known on this level too)
Proteus
(One must understand that there is a line drawn here that no one without "proper lineage" may join regardless of current wealth and status. Not Elon (not joking...they would NEVER let him in) and not Archie.
Rex (I have many friends in Rex. They do a lot of good through Pro Bono Publico Charity. They also have beautiful floats and throws.)
Hermes (this is how you climb into Rex if you are not in by lineage)
Thoth (egalitarian, but respected)
Tucks (very egalitarian and acknowledged by the aboves
Due to their frat connections, etc)
The rest are not really acknowledged by them, except the likes of Endymion, Bacchus, and Orpheus...which are looked down upon because of their new money glitziness.
Just to be clear...again...this is not how I feel at all. This is how the "higher up" Krewe members feel.
Personally, I feel that Mardi Gras can and should be enjoyed at every level. I respect, but don't attend these new Marigny/Bywater groups. I respect, but turned down a Hermes invite 3 times now. I prefer to spend money elsewhere.
I donate numerous personal hours to help Family Gras because I think its a great idea. I do want to show my kid all aspects of Mardi Gras from Rex to Zulu to Crescent City Steakhouse on Fat Tuesday to Family Gras (we have done them all at a young age already).
Mardi Gras should be about enjoyment and fun for all. I respect that some wish to do this klandestinely and some want to watch a Slidell truck parade. In its essence, Mardi Gras is completely egalitarian and devoid of social rank, yet there is a lot of focus on celebrating within your social tier. It's what makes New Orleans Mardi Gras so interesting.

When you know you know.
These same people backed Latoya, so...
I sat in a room and begged for the support of Desi. The dissent by the "blue blood" families at the meeting was that Latoya could be controlled through donations, etc...how did that work out?
I recall I said something to the affect of you can't control a politician from Compton in New Orleans because clearly there are outside influences. I remember hearing chuckles at the table.

Hermes allows Jewish members, it's on the same level as Tucks.
No mention of Chaos and d'Etat, both of which are heavily made up of old-line Krewe members?
What about the other non-parading Krewes?
The people demand answers!

Hermes is still the easy jump to Rex...perhaps, just the non-jewish people.
Chaos is just kind of included as the parading members of momus/comus IMO. Most members opted out, but their grown children joined Chaos.
I don't know what to think about Krewe d'etat, except that I have numerous neighbors in old metairie that ride in it. The conversations with old line Krewe people barely mentioned them. Everyone I know that rides it is cool as shite and the parade is great.

Well he cannot be Queen of Comus. I will not speak for krewes like Nyx, however

X100
The people I know in Krewe d’Etat take the fun of Mardi Gras very seriously. They don’t take themselves or their “position” in Mardi Gras all that seriously.
