some of my best memories form Desert storm are the radio calls from guys on the ground, anxious at first, then after the pass it's pure ecstasy "good shots, GOOD SHOTS!!! THANK YOU!!! PURE CARNAGE!!!" "THANK YOU ____ __!!"

You flew mud hens? Because we know the C model had not a pound for air to ground. I'll stop busting on pilots now because I has mad respect you flew the rhino, my favorite aircraft. What did you fly C? D? E? Rf?

It takes a certain mindset to do what needs to be done and taking comfort that you've done the right thing. It helps to hear it from the good guys.

Call me crazy but this flight was between his house and his gym, and the chopper was used 42 times since Jan 1. This was a regular path. If I drive a rode every day I know where stuff is, like where turns are. How does a pilot that flies this path routinely hit a hill/ mountain? What I don’t understand is they knew it was foggy/ cloudy, why not go to 5,000 ft or whatever is plenty safe and fly to training facility? Then when you are there over the building, very slowly hover to land? Or do whatever you need to in order to land safely?

It seems pretty basic to me? So was this a massive screw up like it seems or something I’m missing that just makes it a small but deadly screw up?

Maybe the pilot wasn’t trained to use instruments only and that’s why he was low following landmarks

I'm certainly not a pilot, but all of this. Sounds like maybe he was either flying from memory only, or was not following his instrumentation, or hotdogging for those onboard. Really sad if it turns out pilot stupidity was to blame.

Could be, but Kobe was worth $600 mil and again the chopper was used 42 times this month. That’s almost twice daily. Why would he not have a top pilot?

My helicopter pilot friend was saying they hate to go ifr and likely the landing pad would have required VFR to land but they were 18 miles away. Seems like they could have figured that out closer? I don’t know, just seems amiss that you’d hit a damn mountain on a routine flight path to a damn basketball practice.
