First the mayor is an Idiot Not the county mayor the city mayor you would have a hard time finding a more liberal idiot in any other city.
Beer is up to the consumer there is not a best or worst damn near 30 breweries now.
Housing is an issue realtors are having to knock on doors to try and get listings or make offers for single family homes not much inventory but oddly enough they have overbuilt apartments and with the pandemic there will be a glutton of empty apartments.
The demographics someone shared is way off.
Property Taxes are cheep. Sales tax 9-10%
Don’t plan on building in the city without paying out the arse for professional fees.
Plenty of water sports
Plenty of mountain biking trails
Nice 3 seasons no winter just a week or two of a cold snap it does not snow here unless it’s a storm that comes from the south to north, but west to east no snow.
Low crime unlike that shithole to the south called Chattanooga.
The schools seem ok they represent well in football basketball soccer within the state playoffs each year. The university had the absolute worst fans in the Sec but have been humbled over the past 15 years you kinda feel sorry for them when they are Missouri’s lap dog and the only East win they get is against vandy but they are making progress Players aren’t in the news much anymore as for the outdoors fishing is good hunting is not great deer and a turkey only.
Healthcare is plentiful and accessible
Restaurants are not bad
Airport is expensive thanks TVA Oak Ridge National lab
Pet friendly
Growing mostly 25-35 yo professionals and Retired assholes from the North.

We have a shite ton moving into my area also. Amazing how much they bitch about the south but they sure don't have a problem moving here.

I’ve stopped a couple times in Knoxville just to see Neyland Stadium. Mostly passed through to the mountains. Would be fun to go watch BAMA play there.

Chattanooga has awful crime people do not realize that at all. You can access several Urban Wilderness areas From all over Knox County. Google Knoxville Urban Wilderness. It’s also about a 45 minute drive to Smokies via 129/441. And cannot beat the fly fishing.

From your list I would place Huntsville over Knoxville for quality of living and access to high quality medical care. Nashville doesn’t offer as much outdoor scene as your other cities but it is a major city with every amenity. Chattanooga would be last but that’s just my opinion. I haven’t lived in Durango or Boise.

Also they are looking at placing a mountain bike trail system in Wears Valley side of the Smoky Mtns. Being opened for discussion next week.

Recently applied for a job at ORNL. Think moving my family to the Knoxville area would be significantly better than up here in Minnesota

We moved here in May 2019 and absolutely love it so far. We didn't move as much towards downtown as we originally planned but can still be down there in about 10-15 minutes.

I do not know if we will stay here forever, but we will be for at least the next 16 or so years. It's a great place to raise a kid from what we have experienced so far.

Clingmans dome is very cool. I love the Smokies, I prefer the Rockies but the Smokies have their own beauty.

I think ORNL has a pretty long hiring process. Traffic that direction can suck because so many people work up there but it's probably not as bad as Minny.

I do too. I really want a mixed child or grand child but they will be completely assimilated into my family's culture.

Elst and Orange Hat are both excellent.

I feel bad for Orange Hat as they were opening right when all the lockdowns started.

ORNL is undergoing a reorganization effort right now. If you check the Careers page you will see a ton of Group leads and Section head jobs. They already have folks in those jobs and they are being forced to reapply for their jobs.

They all think Pruitt is putting them back on top.
