Krav Maga deals with gun and knife defense... not gun and knife fighting. It's all about not dying if someone pulls a weapon on you.
I did Krav for about 5 years and this is accurate. Instructors do not teach much of anything in offense due to liability. For instance, they teach a tap to the throat instead of actually crushing the esophagus

The first lesson you need to learn about knife fighting is you’re going to get cut.
Natan Levy, the UFC fighter, did a shank tank challenge where you see many times you get stabbed in 30 seconds in a cage with knife wielding opponent. Trying to see if you can survive.
He basically brought the fight to them with punches and kicks. The opponent is left defending instead of trying to cut you. He even broke the dudes rib with a back kick. The guy laid down and quit. Obviously, it helps when you’re an elite level striker!

Totally normal question. No red flags at all.
I mean people ask about gun classes all the time, and at least he's looking for training instead of just open carrying big arse knives.

My instructor was a Marine so he was more the "crush the esophagus" type

But we never did anything dealing with offensive weapon stuff... only defense with weapons.

That’s my understanding and normally the biggest knife is better you can just bludgeon the guy to death if ya can’t poke em to death.

Funny story I went to highschool with a guy that had an accident with a damn samurai sword out in the woods swinging at trees and shite all by himself

In my days at LSU I was in a class with Master Yoon when a new student asked the best defense against a knife attack.
Yoon replied “Ah! Knife attack. Use Heel and Toe Defense! Turn other way and put heel and then toe on ground one after other until you no longer see man with knife.”
Say that story with a Korean accent for more funny points.

You want to be a part of a cutting crew?
Don’t blame me if you end up hearing someone wanting to die in your arms tonight.

Only knife training I did outside of the military bayonet CQC was a few weeks in Korea with a hyeopdo....absolutely terrifying to see wielded properly, but it so oddly balanced I was a extreme danger to myself and went back to a bo (no pointy bits!).

Make your peace with it so that when it happen you can continue on with the fight. Me, the best strategy in knife fighting is to make sure you have a firearm on your person.
Yep. A dude on another forum I used to post on said this almost exactly. If you’re dumb enough to engage in a knife fight, at best you need stitches in multiple places and at worst you bleed out and die. Create distance and pull your firearm.

Nobody wins a knife fight. One guy might lose less but both lose.
If someone pulls a knife and you don’t have distance and a gun, run.

Exactly. Richard Pryor said "If somebody comes after you with a knife, run! If you can! If you can't run, fly!"

Bill Rapier of Amtac Shooting teaches integrated combatives classes that include blades. I don’t know that he does any knife specific classes.
He does a lot with Sayoc Tactical which I believe is blade specific. I don’t know anything about that world other than having done stuff with Bill and hearing him talk about it.
From what little I know all of those guys and Sayoc generally is a very serious community and I highly doubt they deal much with people who are just casually interested. Not a slight, it’s just a lot of pros from what I’ve deduced.

There are a lot of good running groups around town that you can join and that will about cover it. Nobody with half a brain thinks there’s a legitimate way to win in that situation.
There’s a great video on YouTube of John Lovell, ex-army Ranger, college (?) wrestler, and solid grappler, fighting someone with a marker and pretending it’s a knife and he would’ve gotten cut to absolute shite if it were real. If that guy can’t handle a knife fight there’s just not a legitimate way to get good at it
