You know what the "greatest generation" never had to do while in school??? Say the fricking pledge. Wasn't even a real thing until 1942. And if you even have a remedial grasp of world history from the 1930s to early 40s, you'd know propaganda was a really big thing. The pledge is byproduct of that.

A timely thread.
On this date, June 14, on Flag Day in 1943, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that is it a free speech protected right prohibiting public schools from punishing students for refusing to say the Pledge of Allegiance in a public school.
Note the year....in the middle of World War II.

Anything I'm asked to recite in a group setting like this feels cult like. If we have to pledge unwavering fealty to the state or some state symbol, we might as well be North Korea.

The country falls somewhere after God and family.
I once took an oath in a group setting after having been drafted which could have cost me my life.
Standing for the anthem .... saying a pledge .... maybe we do have a connection to N.Korea. So what?
Never mind '30s and '40s history, look at history of man from caveman to now.
Would you be man enough to take that oath if drafted? Yeah, kinda like N.Korea might just be doing.
