Selfish? They made time for God and also kept their children quiet so they don't bother you. You may want to try a different adjective.

These are prob the same parents that take an Ipad out to eat with them and give it to the childern to they dont have to talk to them. Its an epedimic!
I used to bring my coloring books out to eat as well.
Unless of course we went to a place that let me draw on the paper table cloth with crayons. Then I didn't speak the entire dinner as I was too busy drawing awesome pirate ships and LSU football players on those awesome pirate ships attacking the pile of broccoli I accidentally spilled so I didn't have to eat it.

I guess I am just old school and expect a child to sit through church and have some discipline like.
You think kids under 5 behave and sit quietly at church? Did you just start going or something?

When I was a kid, we didn't go to the sermon at 3. I was about 6 or so. And yes, I sat there through it all. I was probably 9 before I really had any idea what was going on.

He clearly doesn't have children. If he did, he'd know there is little to no way to keep a child quiet so as not to disturb others. Tomorrow he'll start a thread saying some negligent parent was letting their kids scream at dinner and how dare they not control their children.

If you brought me to church, I'd need an iPad too, and I'm almost 24.

You can take iPads to church? I might start going again.

I think this is pretty standard. I know at my church they offer nursery for pre-K kids and most parents take advantage of this. We did with our kids until they started kindergarten. But even then we'd give them something (toy, coloring book, or even iPad) to keep them quiet until they got older and actually could grasp what was being discussed.

I don't do church anymore, but when I was a kid, my mom would give me a coloring book, bag of colored pencils, and a bag of dry cheerios to snack on.
Anything to keep me quiet for an hour.
Is this practice frowned upon now? Seems better than kids screaming and fidgeting.
He's upset because it's an ipad, I doubt he would have notice if it was a coloring book.

No he'd be complaining that they're not using chalk

Do you know any 3 year olds?
No...they can't sit still for an hour. Why have them in church at that age anyway?
I don't know how other churches are but there's a lot for pre-k to toddler kids at our church. Our Sunday School department has a whole branch devoted to this age group. They teach them very simple things like little songs and get them introduced to the church. We joined our church when my son was 3. It was there that he met what is to this day is best friend. It was also where the first seeds were planted that now 10 years later has grown and helped him develop into a young follower of Christ.

People are so goofy. If it was a coloring book or etch n sketch, they wouldn't notice. Because it's a device, it's different.
Gotcha.
Gotcha.

fair enough. How bout thoughtless? The ipad is still a distraction for those sitting around the kid.
How bout this? Go sit in the cry room where the child can be a child and not disturb others? Or better yet, leave the child at home. Hes obviously too young to pay attention, so hes likely not getting anything out of the experience. Churches offer multiple services on the Sabbath. Mom goes to one, dad to the other. kid can stay home. everyone is happy, no?
