I've got a friend whose 12 year old son is repairing mowers for the Summer. He has his Grandfather walking him through what to do...but he is doing the actual work himself. This is the second Summer he has done it. He has earned quite a bit of money, but what he has learned is invaluable.

aught my son how to cut and edge when he was about 10. He and 2-3 of his football buddies cut grass at least 3 afternoons a week and also does pressure wash on houses and does he whole Jo-Max thing. If you want the house cleaned they charge 50.00.....they get a lot of takers on the weekends probably 6 on a Friday/Sat and about 20+ yards a week

Kids will work if you show them how it should be done and they get compensated for it.....a lot of people will jack kids around on the money

my buddy pays probably $300-400/month to get his grass cut and has a 17 year old who does nothing but play video games.

I would have none of that.

I pay because despite having boys because there is no way we can keep up with the leaves in the fall. Paying for just leaves would cost as much as my annual contract. Ridiculous.

Yep, me and my buddy David used to make a ton of money cutting grass. Probably $2000-$3000 each summer. It helps to get some churches on your client list. They pay very well.

How much would you pay a kid to mow now with a riding lawnmower?

in my neighborhood, kids aren't much cheaper than the legit business will do it for, so i use adults.

We hired some kids from our neighborhood one summer, they ended up having to quit because trying to collect from our loser neighbors became too much of a hassle.

This morning, a lady posted in our neighborhood facebook group if there were any teenagers cutting lawns, and within 10 minutes, four different parents offered up their kids.

these old people can't make up their minds. Do you want kids to get off of your lawn or mow it?

I just had a high school kid quote me $275 to cut and bag my .5 acre plot of land. Yeah no. When I was his age, I was lucky to get $25 and that was using push mower.

No idea. I have no idea how much lawn care services cost either. Those services weren't around in my small town where I grew up in the mid 80s.

Teenage boy lives around the corner from me. He will come outside on perfect weather days and shoot baskets for a half hour or so. The only other time I see him outdoors is getting on and off the school bus. His dad mows their lawn.

Personally I don't like letting someone else cut my grass. They will never cut it they way I like to see it look when done.

Plus there are a lot of old farts hollering about getting off their lawns....

It's just as cheap today to pay a professional lawn care service.

Yeah, we live intown Atlanta and every week there are posts like "me and my buddies are 16 with access to a truck, pay us to do yard work and odd jobs."

Kind of encouraging to see, especially in this area

I still see kids (or their parents) making Nextdoor posts. They just don't go knock door to door anymore.

i guess you literally can't pay kids to go outside anymore.

My nephew just finished 9th grade. Awhile back my mom needed help doing something (it wasn't anything hard. I want to say maybe help her rack and bag leaves). She called him up one weekend, when he wasn't doing anything at all and asked him "you want to make some extra money?". She was going to pay him to help her.. And was probably going to give up $50 or so.. just because it's her grandkid.. And his answer was "no".

I would think any kid.. Around that age, would be exited about having an opportunity to make some extra money.. Evidently not.
