Anyone have experience with Kidney Stones? I had to go to the ER the other night with severe back pain on my left-hand side. The pain comes and goes periodically, but nothing to the intensity of the other night at the ER. Had a CT scan done, the test results said stone hasn't made it to my bladder yet and was 3mm. The urologist said he measured the stone and it is 6mm in greatest diameter. He offered two approached, let it pass on its own if the pain is under control or a surgical procedure to fragment and remove the stone. Anyone with kidney stone experience have a thought on my options?

<--- frigging expert

ETA: If they are ready to pass and not just hanging out in your kidney/bladder, then get a script for Tamusoulin - it opens your pee hole and you'll piss like a fire hydrant and more than likely pass it.

Also, drink a boatload of water with lemon as the acid from the lemons help reshape the stone so it doesn't completely murder your junk when you pee it out.

It sucks man but just keep hydrating yourself.

Drink a lot of water to keep it moving.

It actually doesn't hurt when it passes, it is much more uncomfortable right now.

They gave you FloMax, right?

You don't need to even do that.

You'll hear it when it hits the water and bowl.

Good luck passing one that size. The largest I’ve had was 9mm and I opted for Lithotripsy without hesitation.

Ask for a script of flomax and Tordol. Tordol is the only med that works on kidney stone pain.

I have had several of them. The pain is hard to describe and can be very intense until it reaches the bladder. From the bladder out none of mine had any pain at all. I had 5 of them in a 3 year span. Read that drinks like coke dr pepper tea and even gatorade can cause them so I cut out all those for the most part. never drink any soft drinks at all any more except an occasional Barq's in a bottle and only drink tea or gatorade once or twice a week. Mostly just drink water now which I always liked anyways so not a big deal for me.

Anyways all mine were pretty easy as far as stones go and passed them all at home but the wife did have one after our 2nd kid was born that she had to get in the water and get the ultrasound thing done to bust it up. Said she felt like someone hit her in the gut with a 2x4 repeatedly for several days afterwards and that it was much worse than the pain from the stone but if it wont pass on its own you gotta do something about it.

A guy I know had one recently. Said he was gonna just take Advil and drink water. I told him he was crazy.

He ended up in the ER crying like a little bitch 12 hours later.

Pro tip:

If you puke right outside the door of the ER, you go to the front of the line.

Ok, just drink a lot of water.

No caffeine, obviously.

Good luck man, and honestly, the worst is over.

I can easily see that. I like to think I have a high tolerance for pain, but that stone broke me in a few hours.

Don’t get me started on ER waits. I broke my foot once and was in excruciating pain. I just needed something for the pain and didn’t mind waiting on those with more serious conditions were seen ahead of me.

Problem was that almost all of the “patients” in there ahead of me were just sitting casually in their chairs waiting and when called, they just casually walked over to the back. Meanwhile I was sitting there in a damn wheelchair almost in tears from the pain. fricking ridiculous!

If it's moving, I'd try to pass it. I've had 15+ (had 3 just a couple of months ago) and the pain of the basket retrieval and the lithrotripsy is much worse. I actually had to grab onto the windowsill and will myself to pee because I knew how much it was going to hurt. Its just the movement from the kidney to the bladder that hurts so bad. All of mine essentially quit hurting once they hit the bladder. All I've felt when actually passing them was a little pressure.

Yeah me,too.

I was trying just to do Advil Advil intially, but that wasn't getting it done.

Good news is after it passes you're back to normal pretty quick.
