Comedian Kevin Hart has announced he is stepping down from hosting the 2019 Academy Awards amid criticism over years-old tweets deemed anti-gay.
quote:
The announcement came two days after Hart announced on his Instagram account that he’d been selected to host the 91st Academy Awards, which will be broadcast Feb. 24. He was slated to take over the hosting duties from Jimmy Kimmel, who emceed the past two ceremonies.
On Thursday,

GLAAD, a media monitoring group founded by LGBT people in media, said it had contacted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to discuss Hart’s gig prior to him stepping down. "We’ve reached out to @ABCNetwork, @TheAcademy and @KevinHart4real’s management to discuss Kevin’s anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and record as well as opportunities for positive LGBTQ inclusion on the Oscars stage," the group tweeted.
quote:
Late Thursday, Hart reacted to the backlash in an Instagram video. "If u want to search my history or past and anger yourselves with what u find that is fine with me, a shirtless Hart said. "I’m almost 40 years old and I’m in love with the man that I am becoming. "If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify or explain their past then...I'm the wrong guy, man."
quote:
Hart, 39, posted on Twitter early Friday an apology to the LGBTQ community for his past comments.
quote:
Shortly after announcing the hosting gig, several now-deleted tweets by Hart using words such as “homo” and “gay,” dating back to 2011, resurfaced. In a 2010 stand-up special, Hart said "If I can prevent my son from being gay, I will."
quote:
"We feed into the Internet trolls and we reward them, I'm not going to do it, man. I'm going to be me, and stand my ground," he continued.

Weird way to stand your ground by apologizing and stepping down.

Let those GLAAD members who haven’t ever said anything derogatory ever cast the first limp wristed stone.

Good, I'm glad he didn't cave to these PC morons. Times change and he shouldn't have to apologize for things said during a different time.

When black comedians are folding to PC, we have lost.

Who takes the time to go through tweets from nearly ten years ago?

If he wants to continue to work in Hollywood, he has to bend the knee.

I hope the leftist wackos shoot down every host just for shits and giggles.

He did though. He not only stepped down but he also tweeted an apology.

Must have missed that. Someone was telling me the story earlier and said basically he had to apologize or step down so when he stepped down I figured he hadn't apologized.

Exactly. Just wait for Ken Jeongs apology in a few years for the “Ha Gaaayy” comment in a TV show.

It's going to get to the point where comedians can't say anything. Well, at least can't do anything else because of what they have said.
I guess Eddie Murphy isn't going to ever be able to host the Oscars.. Or Jim Norton... Or well, most comedians..
I have no problem with gay people at all.. But I do like some gay jokes so here is one of my favorite bits.

Man this has brought down enough people that if you want to find something you'll spend hrs doing it.
Clear example of a reminder to all "the internets is forever". At least try to be anonymous if you are going to "yourself".
