So I have to go to Golden Meadow for Christmas this year (wife’s relatives) Something that drives me crazy is that they call the bed of a truck the kess! I’m not sure I’m spelling it right.. has anyone ever heard that shite before. I try to argue with them but there is no changing their minds!

They also say “Cowan” in Cajun French is a turtle!
They also add chopped bologna to their chicken and sausage gumbo! Gross!

It's the local Cajun-French way of saying "case" meaning bed.

It is funny though how it spreads amongst the locals as a real English word

This. Especially below the intracoastal. Can’t be all bad you married a girl from down here.
When in Rome. . .
And I’d eat that gumbo any day instead of one with tomatoes!

If you can’t have fun with people from down the bayou that says a lot about yourself.

I'm not sure how far north its use spreads. Probably a little north of the Intracoastal at least. Maybe up into Lockport but I'm not sure.

I almost lost my mind when my wife’s aunt said she was making “Cowan” soup! Lol but I do have fun down there my sister has a camp in grand isle I always have a great time there. I love hanging out with my wife’s godfather. He is 5 years younger than me. Pretty cool dude he has lived down there all his life.

I knew before opening this would be lower lafourche. I grew up my entire life calling it the kess.

Next time you go down, ask them what a fess is.
