Kenmore Elite oven - door won't close all the way

The door will close almost all the way but not enough for the oven to stay on. We have to look like trash with the silverware drawer pulled out enough to hold the door closed while cooking. I'm tired of looking like an OT poor. Is it a latch, a spring, or something else to blame here? Has anyone else had this issue before and what was the solution?

That’s got to make pre-heating a bitch.

Doesn't sound very "Elite" to me.

Alternative Answer: Ask a German soldier, reportedly they're pretty good about getting oven doors closed.

Pull one of the rabbit ears off your TV and twist that into a cable tie for the oven door.

I recommend the following:

1. Go to the following website: www.google.com (This website has tons of useful information)

2. In the field in the middle of that webpage, type the words "Kenmore Elite oven - door won't close all the way"

3. Hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard.

4. Click on a few of the first suggested links and read up on how to fix this issue.

5. Ask your boyfriend to help with the repair.

I was waiting for this answer. Believe it or not my precise problem is nowhere to be found. Apparently the problem everyone has with these doors is they either don't close at all or they when they open, they fall to the ground. Neither of those is my problem.

Is it possible something or someone fell on the open oven door? The flange that holds the spring might be bent.

Luckily (for you) one doesn't need an oven to make Gumbo.

Are you saying, you can close it, but you have to force it and then hold it shut or it will open just a little?

I had that issue many years ago. I just ordered new hinges and replaced them. Problem went away.

either the door isn't aligned right or you have bad hinges.

There are hinges on the bottom corners of ovens that hook onto the oven itself. The hinges typically have some type of locking latch on them. They are how you remove the oven door. Check to see if one got hit and is stopping the door from closing

Eta: I got my $2200 range from HH Greg for $600 when they were closing, because the salesmen were telling people it needed a whole new door. It was the last electronic thing for sale in the entire store. The latch wasn't locked in

I can close it but it has to be held closed for it to work.

Hopefully that helps.

Before you try anything else, maybe you can try removing the door completely and then re-installing it. I had to do some work on mine and few months ago that required the door to come off. It was pretty easy to do. Maybe it is just something that got out of alignment and needs to be straightened out.
