This is weird, but definitely has some great OT elements to it.

A Katy, Texas, man who said he was regularly bullied as a boy accused Katy ISD Superintendent Lance Hindt at a public meeting this week of being one of his leading tormentors more than three decades ago. Hindt denied the allegation in a statement Tuesday, saying the man's claim "simply isn't true."

quote:

The man, Greg Barrett, lodged the complaint at a public forum during Monday night's Katy ISD work study board meeting. He said that he was "unbelievably bullied" while a student at West Memorial Junior High School, which is part of the district. Barrett said he was harassed because of his legal last name: Gay. "I had teachers that bullied me. I had kids that bullied me. I had nobody to turn to," he said. In one incident, Barrett — he uses his mother's maiden name — said his lip was cut when his head was shoved into a urinal in the boy's bathroom at school.

quote:

Barrett accused Hindt of being one of two students at West Memorial Junior High who attacked him in the bathroom. "Lance, you were the one that shoved my head in the urinal," he told the superintendent. Hindt, a veteran educator who took the helm of the Katy ISD in August 2016, didn't immediately respond but dismissed the allegations in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

quote:

Hindt also said he didn't recall Barrett from his childhood. While he acknowledged that they attended West Memorial Junior High School at the same time, Hindt said they went to different high schools in Katy. "My junior high principal — Mr. (Garland) McMeans — would never have let me — or anyone else — get away with the actions (Barrett) described," Hindt said in the statement. However, Barrett said he was often involved in fights at school over the insults based on his name and that Hindt was an instigator.

quote:

Barrett said he was shocked at the board meeting when Hindt appeared to lean back in his chair and laugh off the charge leveled against him. "That really ticked me off," he said. "When he laughed, I thought, 'Maybe this man hasn't changed.'"

Well, we all know that middle school and high school are the most important times of your life. Whatever happens then defines who you are the rest of your life. After that, either you will get to be a hero and drink at your hometown bar the rest of your life and talk about those good times, or your doomed to have to get over it and move on with your life.

So the superintendent was a bully 40 years ago as a 12 year old?

I tend to believe the accuser's account of things, but I'm not sure why it matters in 2018.

This sounds like the movie The Gift where the guy torments Jason Bateman for being a bully in high school. #metoo just became applicable to anyone who was treated badly in any way. This world is becoming unbearable. Everyone is bullied at some point in some way.

This guy is a pussy for crying about this 30 years later but he's most likely telling the truth. The superintendent should just apologize if it's true or Greg Barrett should man up and challenge his arse to a fight now as men.

Idk, I tend to believe the guy. That being said, I don't know why it matters now. It was 40 years ago and the superintendent was 10-13 years old.

I saw this on the news last night

The "victim" said he "finally" got to face his tormentor publicly. Hindt has been in the public eye for years. No idea why this dude decided to confront Hindt after 35 years. The interview the accuser gave on the news smelled liked total BS.

quote:

Hindt issues statement over alleged bullying accusation made at Monday's meeting By Jimmy Galvan

Katy ISD Superintendent Dr. Lance Hindt has issued a statement concerning an accusation that was made during Monday’s work study meeting about an alleged bullying incident.

Greg Barrett addressed the board during the public comments portion of the meeting and informed the trustees that he was bullied by Hindt during their time in Katy ISD.

The following is Barrett’s statement made to the board last night.

“My name is Greg Barrett and I graduated in 1983. I started in 1975 with Mr. Lance. My legal name is Greg Gay and I was bullied. Unbelievably bullied. I started out and I had teachers that bullied me and I had kids that bullied me. Even the coaches, I had no one to turn to. One day at lunch, I had my head shoved in a urinal where it busted my lip. I laid on the ground in a fetal position as the kids kicked me. I got up, rinsed my face off and walked out of the lunchroom and straight to the principal’s office. He told me that these kids would grow up some day. They won’t always be like this. But here I am covered in urine from lying on the ground under the urinal. They sent me home and I went home and got the .45 out of my father’s drawer and put it in my mouth. At this point I had nobody in the school system to help me out. Lance, you were the one that shoved my head in the urinal.”

With that, Barrett walked away from the podium and Hindt appeared to be upset over the comments.

“Want to debate it because I had witnesses that were there when it happened,” Barrett said as he returned to his seat.

Hindt offered no response to Barrett’s claim but asked for the next speaker. The following statement was released by Hindt Tuesday afternoon.

“It was difficult for me to listen to a gentleman Monday night recount a bullying incident he said occurred more than 35 years ago. As superintendent in three school districts in Texas, I have always tried to create an environment where every student is safe — physically and emotionally. But when an individual impugns my character and reputation as the instigator of those actions, I am disappointed because it simply is not true. I do not recall this person from my childhood. I did not graduate from the same high school as Mr. Barrett, though we did attend the same junior high in 1978. And my junior high principal — Mr. McMeans — would never have let me (or anyone else) get away with the actions he described. I do not suggest that Mr. Barrett was not bullied, only that I was not part of it. Bullying is wrong. Period. It was then and it is today. At Katy ISD, we are always looking for ways to make our campuses and our students’ safe. I am proud to lead a district that is not afraid to confront bullying behavior — whether in person or online. We are always challenging our teachers and principals to identify harmful behavior and to intervene as necessary.”

Someone obviously didn't learn their lesson 30 years ago and needs a refresher...

I hope the reporter asked him why he was eating lunch in the bathroom in the first place.

If people treat others like an arse, I don't have a problem with the targets calling those people out. However, I don't think anything should come of it in a situation like this.
