Wonderful. Given that snakes and alligators tend to avoid humans, don't take that as a sign they aren't there. I've been around snakes and gators long enough to know if you live near swamps or marshes in South Louisiana - they're there. But less likely of being bitten in densely populated areas. You never know what the raging winds and storm surges will throw at you.

My family and I went to my parent’s place in Baton Rouge. One of my aunts went with us. On the Sunday afternoon before the storm, my mother and aunt got sick of sitting around listening to the doom and gloom on television and decided on a whim to go to the casino. My mom won $2000. That cash helped a lot of relatives with gas and groceries in the first days after the storm.
The other stand out moment for me was three days after the storm. I was sitting at a red light in BR and saw a NYPD car pass by. I was like WTF??

Would not surprise me. Lootie's been a meme classic.

I'm truly sorry for your loss, sir. Losing a loved one, either directly from the winds or storm surge or after suffering devastating personal property loss is not a pleasant thing to watch. Having said that,Tennessee (or the Ozarks) is a beautiful place to start your life over.
I lost cousins (toddlers) in Audrey. The circumstances of the way they died, break my heart to this moment.

Probably laughing at you for not knowing the difference between poisonous and venomous.

Betsy and Katrina are two I'll never forget and would prefer to not repeat again.
I was out my house for 4 months with Katrina before I got things up and running again to be able to live in the house.
It was kind of nice the first 18 months or so being only 3 houses on the block with people living in them. Things were quiet at night.

Mardi Gras 06 might have been the best in a while.

These were the stories that resonated so much with me.
My grandfather was born and raised uptown. Spent his entire life in New Orleans except for when he was in the military during WWII.
He passed away in a fema trailer parked in his driveway.

Absolutely great time with very little tourist and most of the undesirable class not back in Nola yet.

It was, except there were no bands...but the crowds were absolutely the best

Best Mardi Gras I’ve experienced by a significant margin.
Granted I was also a senior in high school and we had been given a get out of jail free pass essentially

I made a lot of money the week following Katrina. I was working at River Bend in St. Francisville. They needed people to go to Waterford 3 in Taft because the majority of their workers were evacuated. We went the afternoon after Katrina and stayed in the plant for six days. We got double time 24 hours a day plus per diem. They also catered three meals a day.
