Justice system works differently for rich/wealthy folks: Elizabeth Holmes (Theranos)

Will Elizabeth Holmes go to prison?
After a lengthy trial and almost 30 witnesses, the court found Holmes guilty of four counts of criminal fraud against investors with 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each of her convictions. The jury acquitted Holmes of charges of fraud against patients.
Because the conviction was for a non-violent, white-collar crime, legal experts think it’s likely that Holmes will only spend three years behind bars, and that too in a premium prison with low security and plenty of facilities like pilates classes, tennis courts, and arts programs. The recent birth of her baby boy with husband Billy Evans could further reduce her sentence.

Where is Elizabeth Holmes right now?
Once touted “the next Steve Jobs” with a net worth of $4.5 billion, Elizabeth Holmes has fallen from grace (and money) and is now worth $0, according to Forbes. Currently out on a $500,000 bail bond, Holmes is living it up in her $135 million Green Gables estate in Silicon Valley with her husband and son.

She should both go to prison for the full sentence and also be responsible for funding her stay there.

You say this, but who are DAs currently even refusing to prosecute for violent crimes?

I fricking despise that woman even moreso after watching The Dropout. It's a shame the way the justice system caters to the wealthy and seemingly powerful, and people who got caught with weed are spending 30 years in prison. It's a goddamn shame.

At that price, the estate must in the same neighborhood as George Lucas' property in Marin County.

Yeah, it does. It works differently for every person. There are inherent biases in sentencing, not limited to to wealth. Race, height, clothes, facial features, hair length, etc all play a pivotal role in how you're sentenced.
That's the way the world works. It only is a truly equitable justice system if you take the human out of it. And you can't do that, because crime and punishment are human phenomenons.
You want a justice system you have to deal with jury biases. The justice system that would take place otherwise is far more gruesome.
Not defending her, she is a piece of shite IMO.

Seriously? She didn’t kill anyone.
Plus she’s pregnant.

Seems like Billy Evans is

It also works differently for white and black folks. A black dude in a crime-ridden shithole can get off easy with 5 years. A white dude in a decent area can get 75 years for the exact same crime. Privilege, I guess.

Punishment has always worked differently. Peak legal privilege is a rich, pretty white lady. But you can only talk about white dude privilege apparently.
She'll get next to nothing for a sentence because she's gonna go in there with her crotch goblin and her new husband and cry and promise not to be a shite head again. She's a first class a-hole and should do serious time. Unfortunately she won't.

This is such a bullshite argument. Statistics on state-level prisoners reveals that 0.3% of all state inmates are behind bars for weed possession only. Many of whom pled down from more serious crimes. 99.8% of federal prisoners sentenced for drug offenses were incarcerated for drug trafficking. No one is in jail for “having a little weed”. They’re in there for recidivism, cause they cut a deal, or they had a lot of weed on them, or they had a weapon on them.
And as noted above, progressive DAs and judges aren’t locking up anyone. So the “system ” is pretty fricking fair at this point.

I agree with everything else you said but no one who got caught with a personal size amount of weed is spending 30 years in prison. Stop posting myths.
Most non violent criminals have a rap sheet a mile long, they aren’t in prison for 30 years.

Yea.

Eh. No. People don't go to jail for 30 years for a little weed. They go to jail for being a habitual offender. Show me a first offender in the modern era going to jail for multiple years for a simple possession of a personal use amount of weed, and I'll agree with you. I'm just not sure that's the case.

It’s not that it works different for them, it’s that they know how to work it differently.
Posted on 5/5/22 at 11:52 am to Street Hawk
It also works differently for women. A man would have a longer sentence.

Yet, on what seems like a weekly basis, I hear about some violent crime committed by some scumbag who was either:
Out on bond
Recently paroled
Has a lengthy rap sheet
The same justice system is putting these criminals back on the streets every day.

The citation revealed a new address for the couple: a home on the ultra-lush grounds of Green Gables, one of America’s most expensive estates.
CNBC has independently confirmed that Holmes and Evans are currently staying in one of the homes that dot the 74-acre property. The storied estate, which is currently listed for sale for $135 million, is nestled in Woodside, one of the wealthiest towns in Silicon Valley. Opening statements in her trial begin this week.
