There is no comparison between reporting a beating/robbery and telling someone you don't know that her husband is a cheater.

How are these the same at all?

For that matter, how do we know the wife wasn't fricking around also?

I think if you don't have a personal relationship with someone you stay silent. If you know someone well, you tell them. That's just me.

bullshite. OP already alluded to the fact that he had other motives on the first page

This is my line of thinking but I'm not going to be upset with someone for doing something I wouldn't.

Why people are so upset over a cheater being exposed is beyond me.
Why go to the girl then? Why not confront the guy? Let him know that it's out... that you know he's cheating and he needs to do something about it. Especially if you don't even know the wife.

The OP definitely has a motive besides "the greater good" even if he needs to tell himself that to feel justified.

Didn't see that. If there was any other motive outside of "doing the right thing" then he's in the wrong.

Because a random guy coming up and saying it to him likely won't make him stop. Telling his wife absolutely will.

Nothing to do with a girlfriend. A very close friend girl, yes--absolutely. She was basically played by a married guy.

It wasn't a girlfriend.

It was a wife which is a lot more complicated.

Either way, OP should have just kept his mouth shut.

The above proves your actions had nothing to do with "doing the right thing" as you claim. It's clear you did it out of spite/revenge.

So I'M the one that hurt her? Are you kidding me? You don't think it's the lying cheaters fault? Not at all? Maybe just a little bit?

She wasn't hurt until you opened your mouth. Hearing that sort of thing from a stranger is creepy enough and from the way you write, I doubt you told her with any empathy. You should have let her find out on her own or be told by someone who cares about her. You obviously don't.

it's the random guy who didn't mind his own business' fault f

Key language...some random guy comes up to you and tells you something like that? How in the hell did you think she would feel? Were you expecting her to thank you for your service?

What's missing from this story? Are you stalking this chick? Are you a PI? Are you dating the chick who slept with the husband? Was this some sort of payback to the husband? There's more to this story.

quote:

C'mon, man!

Not a man. I'm a chick and if some stranger came up to me and told me that...well, I might not be responsible for what came next. I would think you were the creepiest of creeps regardless of whether you were correct.

If you wanted her to know, you could have AT THE VERY LEAST told someone who was close enough to her to break the news to her. I wouldn't have done that, either, though. She would find out in her own time.

How old are you anyway?

It was his wife... and complete stranger to the OP. So that tells me he either knows the husband or the girl he cheated with but likely both and he had some skin in the game.

This. He "did the right thing" because dude was splaying his lady.

Serious post cause I've been drinking:

I have to agree here. Every situation is different but I think the cheated party should be informed as soon as possible. One thing more humiliating than being cheated on is finding out that everyone knew way before you did and kept their mouth shut.

I disagree. It's more complicated because he'll likely have to pay her a lot of money because of infidelity.

In hindsight, I definitely agree with you. I should have just told him. I really didn't even think about it like that. I didn't want it to seem like I was threatening him or trying to use this information against him in any way. Idk, this whole thing could have gone good or bad in an entirely different way.
