I ask you the same.. How the frick are you just paying $159?
Like I said, my bill just kept going up every so often and I probably should have called them up and negotiated with them, but it's one of those things that you don't think about on a day to day basis. I was just texting with a friend who just has Cox cable has two premium channels and the sports channel and pays $180 a month.
He gets his internet through some local cable/internet provider which his says sucks, but it's like $18 a month.. How the frick does Cox come up with these prices? It's almost funny..
You have people paying more for just one service than people with multiple service. People who have no premium channels and internet, pay more than people with multiple premium channels & packages and internet.. Do they use some type of formula?

We switched to AT&T Uverse (fiber) from Cox 2 years ago. We couldn't be more pleased about the price and the service. The only thing I don't like as much is the Stingray Music channel is not as good as the Music Choice, but it's no big deal. We also don't get Cox Sports (local H.S. games) but get AT&T Sportsnet (Astros), which is a much better swap to me. It is much cheaper and we got unlimited high speed data on all of our phones for $10 / month total. On April 4, we had to contact them and ask to keep our deal we signed up for and they were happy to do it. I forgot to mention we also have HBO, Showtime, and another tier in our deal. We pay about $70/month less than Cox and we didn't have the movie packages. We also like the 'wireless' boxes and can move them from room to room if needed or the patio w/o having a hard wire like the Cox set up.

I didn't even think about that.
It's not that big of a deal, but when the school I follow plays on TV on an away game, I watch it (which might be once a year.. so not really a big loss),

Honestly you just made one of life’s greater mistakes lol

Anything at any price is better than Cox, so good move.

I switched about 16 months ago and have no regrets. I just have to figure out what I am going to do when my 24 month guaranteed price runs out.
If they told you that you will not lose signal when it rains they lied. It causes some interuption once in a while but usually only lasts for a few minutes when it does happen.

Okay.
Two people who posted after you says otherwise. Can you elaborate or are you just trolling?

Every week I get mail from Spectrum offering 400 Mbps Internet and TV with free DVR service for 39.99 a month with a 2 year guarantee. With the ESPN package. Does anyone have it? What is the catch? What does it cost to get the SEC network if it is not included?

This was a question I always asked myself.. The whole "if it's too good to be true then more than likely it is" mindset is ingrained in me to the point I guess I don't ask "or is it too good to be true? Could I just be getting the shaft?".
I am not suggesting you switch to Spectrum, I know absolutely nothing about it, but I am just saying.. That's a question I was always asking myself.

Just call them and say the word cancellation. They will hook you up with someone who will offer you discounts to keep your business. Make them give it to you on a one year deal. You will have to call them every year and repeat cycle. Watch your bill because they have a habit of lying.

You should have asked BEFORE you committed.

Exactly!
It's called "no competition". In fact we don't even have AT&T as a broadband choice.
5g is supposed to be the next, great "equalizer". But since it's the same bunch that will be offering this service, I'm not holding my breath.

Gigabit internet is the real deal. Direct is awesome for sports and picture quality, except when its raining hard.
Having Apps like ESPNapp and casting, especially for you La guys during hurricane season help alleviate some of those headaches Directv offers

LUS with DTVNow here and I love it

Had Uverse, cut out constantly. Switched to DirectTV, and it cuts out even it is even thinking about raining. Can’t win. Too expensive to rewire the house to accommodate Comcast.

Then you had a poor DirecTV installation
Mine doesn’t go out in tornado type conditions.

The $148 a month you are paying is going to inflate like a balloon quickly. You will be charged invisible fees that they can’t and won’t confirm over the phone.
You will be on hold for 45 minutes before you finally get to the people who tell you they can’t help. You will then be redirected like a pinball from department to department with 20 minute waits in between.
You will be lucky if your signal only goes out when it rains, and not when it’s just a cloudy day. The representative will also tell you you’re lieing about the reception going out in certain conditions. I had DirectTv when I lived in BR, and moved to Laplace and kept it after being told it would be free to move. Both locations were impacted by the weather. The move also wasn’t free, and I haggled with them for two weeks over $250 before they finally waved the install fee.
They will charge you out of the arse if you ever want to add extra equipment, and here is where they really get you. They won’t tell you this, but say you add another cable box, your contract is restarted from that date. They will also charge you to have a technician come out and install the new equipment.
If you ever have equipment go out, you’re likely looking at a few days before they can get someone out to fix it. 2-3 days seems to be about the running average, though I did go 5 days once. You’re also going to probably have to miss work because most windows they give you will be a weekday, with a 4 hour window. Technician will be there Tuesday between 8-12, for example. I have also seen people get the late slot and the technician runs late at another customers house so they don’t make it to you until the next day. When I lived in BR, I had a tech tell me the satellite had shifted an 1/8” and that’s what caused my connection to go out.
It was a nightmare for me, and I ended up buying my way out of the contract a couple months before it was up. Seems to be the same experience for the vast majority of customers.

Free live tv is a crap shot...You can't count on the person who is streaming to be legit. The Nerds use to take pride in their work, now they are getting uppity. I think they need a good shove or a swirl to straighten them out.
