I would imagine there are plenty of safe routes in BR to take on a bike

there might be safe routes, but i don't know about plenty. i wish we had bike lanes.

trying to get down bluebonnet/essen/perkins is going to be very dangerous for a biker.

ETA: and there are very few safe streets that cross under/over I-10. it's unfortunate but true.

there are but it would probably make for a much longer commute on a bike. nothing is a straight shot. lots of turns because the geniuses that designed baton rouge neighborhoods kept the streets short and included lots of cul de sacs. On one hand, it keeps the traffic out of the neighborhoods and on the main roads. On the other hand, it makes traffic on those main roads a nightmare.

basically there is no way to cross the interstate without riding a significant distance down bluebonnet, essen & college. and there are no straight neighborhood connections between these either, so you are forced onto perkins as well (im talking about my home-to-work routes). all 3 have no shoulders and are heavily trafficked. idk if i'm wrong i would love to know because i would love to bike to work some days. i can't see it though.

If you're east of the 10/12 Split, you're SOL on going N/S across the interstate without getting on a 5+ lane roadway.

i don't mind the turns or out-of-the-way routes. i can take the truck if i'm pressed for time. i just don't see how to get around without getting onto the major surface streets.

Nor the median!! That is probably the most annoying thing with bikers. They feel free to ride in the median on perkins.

i saw a frick head biking the wrong direction on jefferson, it was the part over by highland so no sidewalks are really any room on the shoulder at all.

What's the latest on this? This will help out a lot to avoid the major streets but crossing i10 will still be a problem.
