Well, thinking about that just ruined my day.

If you live in Fort Bend County, just try to find a lawyer. The appraisal district board is hands down the most condescending group of frickwits I've ever seen in one room.
Our property tax notice in 2021 made it very clear that the assessment district intended to raise the value of our property 40% over 4 years (above the mid 2020 value.)
People need to vote in more than just national elections (county assessor is an elected position.)

increase homestead exemption to 100K
Louisiana needs to do this to help offset some of the bullshite Demoncrat taxes - like Council on Aging.

You don't really own any property that you have to pay the government for the right to keep.

Our property tax is actually going to go down a little thanks to the extra Homestead exemption credit I get for being 80% VA disabled.
Yea but you're disabled

I live in Idaho now and got this in the mail with my yearly letter last week. I need to look at it but guess Idaho had a surplus.
Yeah, I don't qualify for shite. Have to make less than $37K

All property tax taxpayers in Idaho will receive property tax relief in 2023 and beyond from state funds. More people also will qualify for Idaho's Property Tax Reduction program, also known as the Circuit Breaker Program, because of relaxed legislative requirements.

no, you're paying for the benefit of sanitation services & infrastructure, public schools, law enforcement, fire department, libraries, building department & code enforcement, and a host of other services provided by municipal & county/parish governments that underpin modern civilization.
You don’t really believe that do you

I know in our northern Dallas burb it’s the case. I’ll put our facilities, parks and schools against anyone. Top of the line They are opening a 60 million dollar, 150,000+ sq foot Rec center a mile from my house next month
That’s is something to boast about but for $1,500/month, I could build myself a really nice rec center in my back yard.

Found the Government worker in the thread. Your 3 hour lunch break is over.

That area has also done a good job of planning for the population boom. New schools, roads, infrastructure, and public services have also needed to be expanded and built at a dizzying pace. Property taxes pay for those things.
The limited pockets of growth in Louisiana are often surrounded by two-lane roads, new or expanded schools take forever, and very little sensible coordination between developers and government entities.
However, all politicians get drunk on money. Meeting a need and using money wisely is one thing, but it’s always more, more, more.
Schools are built, roads are paved, police and fire are hired, a brand new city hall complex is built and filled with bureaucrats, and all the parks and recreation areas are established. Do taxes decrease? Is the appraisal process finally accurate and fair?

When you have to pay a disproportionate amount for those services it is a giant kick in the balls

Disabled veterans are tax exempt across most of the country

Do people who rent or live in cheap houses get to use these things?
Does someone who lives in a house worth $500,000 get to use the public amenities half as much as someone with a $1 million house?
Property value is a shitty way to determine the bulk of property taxes, if you believe they are actually to pay for services and public facilities and not just an opportunity to soak the rich.

Speaking of schools, I don’t have school aged children so where’s my benefit?

I don't know you guys are doing it. I griped because our property taxes went up to $2500 a year and that's on just under 100 acres and a roughly 1500 sq ft house.
I've been calling the county officials (all repubs) a bunch of Bidenites as the tax increase (100% due to raising property values) was greater than inflation.
