If missing the final results in your flunking the course, you might want to get ready to take it again and this time get a better alarm clock.

I happen to be a Professor. If you had legit documentation - i.e., in the hospital, that would be one thing. I would then give you an incomplete and let you come back the following semester to do a make up exam that would be different and more difficult. Otherwise, I would tell you that this is what time the class took the final and you weren't there - retake the class next semester and show up for class and exams.

You should eat something rotten and tell the prof you had food poisoning and puke in the trashcan in his office.

It's nice to hear others have the same nightmares about missing finals or forgetting they signed up for a class and can't graduate and what not 10-15 years after college. I thought i was the only one.

That sucks...All you can do is talk to the Professor/Instructor and hope for mercy. I would say that if you have an A and the final is not more than a certain percentage you can still pass ,but taking the final is required now.

I would have went to the onsite medical facility, told them I had a migraine, and got an excuse.

Dude already emailed me back saying he is giving another section their test at 1:50 , and that I could just take it then. Well that was easier than I expected!

Not buying it.

You really went to his office, blinked at him with a slight smile, and told him you'd do anything ... really, aannnything to take it later.

I have a fricking A in the class.

Just be glad that you're still going to pass this class regardless of whatever happens on this final.

There are students in hard as shite classes working their asses off and barely hanging onto a C right now.

What?

You would have him be taking a test for a class that finished last semester in an entirely new semester?

And why would you make the new test more difficult if he had a legit excuse like hospital or death in the family? Isn't that still punishing legit circumstances?

Did this on a 730 Saturday Calculus 2 final freshman year. Still drunk told the TA my alarm didn't go off bc my power went out - he thought it was weird since I had A in the class. Took it outside his office 2 hours late drunk threw up a few times in the bathroom, made 80 still got an A. Cool story bro.

Nope. Many syllabi generally spell that out. I normally find that in most cases when we ask for legit documentation, it never arrives. We have deadlines to get grades out. Also, in fairness to the rest of the class, I am not going to allow someone the advantage of quizzing the others as to what was on the final. So in the interest of maintaining academic integrity for the rest of the class, yes, they get a different final and generally a tad more difficult. It discourages a lot of bullshite. If you qualify to take the final, unless you are graduating, you can take an incomplete and wait until the beginning of the following semester.

However, if you just fricked up and overslept or skipped the final for some other reason, a crisis on your part doesn't create one on my part. You can repeat the class. There are consequences in college for irresponsible behavior just as there will be in the workplace. Better to learn now than later.
