If the professor follows the book, he could fail you for missing the final exam, since that's a required grade. Would be cruel, but it's within the rules.
More than likely, if you're a great student and you just tell your professor honestly what happened he/she will let you take the makeup with no penalty, or a small one. Talk to the professor ASAP. Don't wait.
In my experience, professors will go out of their way to help the good, hard-working students through problems like this. They want you to be successful. If you're a C student that rarely attends class, the professor won't throw you a lifeline.
Good luck. I'm getting ready for my finals, as well.

I did this one time. I told the professor I broke down and that a BRPD gave me a ride home and I had my car towed to a shop. I then had the officer call the professor and verify my bogus story.
It worked and I got to take my Geology final.

i overslept for a grad school midterm, fell asleep at my kitchen table studying
got to the class as they were letting out, begged my teacher to let me take with the next class coming in and he was fine with it

This is the definition of college. I also started my day at 1this semester on MWF so I caught up on sleep those days. I have one class on Tuesday/ Thursday and it was at 8. It wasn't hard to get up from one class, and come back home and go back to sleep.
