I'll rather go somewhere in western Europe for a week. May cost a few more bucks but you're not trapped on a big boat with a bunch of undesirable people for a week.

I would pay Moromon money to go on any trip with Anthony Bourdain. That guy knows how to travel.

When we are vacationing on Grand Cayman or Somewhere in the Lesser Antilles, we spend a day in the main port city. We watch these trashy rednecks and Yankees deport from a ship and hustle to all of the souvenir shops to buy shot glasses, magnets, etc. with the name of whatever island we are on printed on the side. Watch as others climb on busses to do the most touristy excursion available for half a day. Wherever we are later in the day.....at a cafe, on a beach, or on our private veranda beside our private pool, we watch as the ship sails away taking the daily trash haul out to sea. Later in the year, somebody tells me "oh, we love St Bart's! It is awesome!" Excited that there is someone who I can converse with about all of the good restaurants and beaches and hiking trails, etc. on the island , I inquire about their time there. "We just stopped there for half a day on our cruise but it was wonderful!" "So what did you do in a half day there?" I ask. "Oh, we ate at a cafe and shopped but the boys went on a snorkel trip to a reef where they feed stingrays. It's a great place."
Oh, okay.
Oh, okay.

No one is making you go on a cruise if you don't want to? What's the point of this thread, to seek attention?

i dont know what constitutes a luxury cruise, but my royal Caribbean cruise kicked arse. we had a balcony, got the drink package, had great dinners every night. had a good time in Jamaica and Grand Cayman, didnt really do anything in Cozumel.
We're taking the same cruise out of Galveston in in February with our daughter.
I agree with the others, not all cruises are the same. They vary different depending on the departure port, length of cruise, ports of call and which cruise line.
A 4 day out of NOLA on Carnival Elation is not even close to the same experience as a 7 day on the Disney fantasy out of Port Canaveral.

If you're trapped on a boat with undesirables for a week it's because you are an undesirable, and can't afford a better cruise

Next time you go to Wal-Mart think to yourself "Would I want to spend a week on a boat with these people?"
If I'm hammered and pay one price to eat and drink as much a a possible with those people while traveling around on vacation away from work and shite, sure.

we looked into NCL also, but they nickel and dime you if you eat in their "specialty" restaurants... but you get the drink package if you book a certain room.
we did a 5 day on the elation not long ago, ended up less than 300 per person. no drink package though because both of us have to get it, and preggo obviously cant drink.
next will be RCL.
I took a Norwegian cruise once and for that reason probably wouldn't do it again. I don't want to have to pay for any meals, regardless of where they are. Also, the ship wasn't as nice as some of the others I'd been on (we were on the Sun).

People who like cruises generally also like to play UNO and Skip-Bo.

Are you a Marine? You have the ego of a Marine.

The last cruise we took was with Disney last year and at the time they allowed you to bring whatever alcohol you could carry on the boat. You weren't supposed to drink it outside of your stateroom and the policy has since been changed because so many people took advantage of it, but it was weird taking so much on....legally.
This time around, the wife and I did the Royal Caribbean Ulitmate package which is unlimited beer, wines, frozen drinks, cocktails, bottled water and discounted bottle wine as well if we want to upgrade one night.

Also, a few things I find to be true:
- They're not crowded. If you want to find a quiet place by a pool away from other people, you can easily do so
- Getting a balcony room is the best advice I could ever give anyone. Being able to have that ocean front balcony, watch the sea go by while having some cocktails, is fantastic (I just like being on the water) - If you go during off peak times, you can get a balcony room on a week long cruise for about $120 a day and that includes everything
- When you get to port, immediately make your way out of the port area, and get to the more "local" part of town. If you go to Carlos and Charlie's 100 yards from the ship in the manufactured tourist village, you haven't really visited belize
- I'm kind of a spaz on vacation and get restless easily, so having options of things to do constantly...shows, events, activities...and seeing 3 or four different countries in a week, is something I enjoy
- Cruises can be a great way to test drive a number of locations before committing to a longer vacation at the best of them

I'm with OP. Cruises are trashy.
