Trump is still president. They've been mulling the closure for a while now.

Refinery generally benefits from low Crude prices.

They (Shell) have been In the process of moving away from refining and focusing on chem. I think for a combination of reasons.

That’s true. They seem to want to sell almost all the stand alone refineries they have around the world.

That’s just horrible.....

I mean, he won. Game over. Not a coincidence they decide to pull the plug today. When you make comments during a debate that you want to move away from oil and gas, investors tend to not like that.

Energy demand is lowered as we become more energy efficient. The model that companies like Shell are going to is integrated chemical/refining facilities. Demand for petrochemical products is growing. Stand-alone refineries isn’t where you want to be investing.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying Biden is the direct cause for this, and I am definitely nowhere close to being a Biden supporter.
They have been trying to sell it for a while and already were considering shut down. The decision may have been expedited by election given the grim future of O&G under Biden, but I doubt it had as much impact as you are implying.

Louisiana HAS to diversify its economy. This is the first major oil related domino to fall but won’t be the last.
Oil contributes to a number of products that are still very vital but those producers will shrink over the next century. We must adapt or we will face the same type of economic crash the “rust belt” states face today
