Just had words with a dumb redneck kid. Who's in the wrong?

Took my 2 yo and 4 yo for ice cream at a little locally owned place. We were the only folks in there along with the 2 high school girl employees.
A skinny redneck guy pulls up in a jacked up truck with wide tires. He gets out looking all hard and proceeds to bust in the place like John Wayne. He saddles up to the counter and starts having a conversation with one of the girls, and spitting in a plastic coke bottle. When their bickering became annoying, I asked if they would mind calming it down. He looked at me like he wanted a fight and then I also told him that having a bottle of spit in a restaurant is not socially acceptable.
As you can imagine, he got all pissed but he realized I'm twice his size and left.
Who was in the wrong here?
I'm becoming a social assassin as I age.

You were good. Kid needs to know that he actually lives in a world with other people and unless he decides he wants to piss everyone off in the future, he'll try to consider what goes on around him and how his actions may effect people around him.
I see kids like this myself and its obvious their parents never said shite to them growing up and they've learned this egocentric way of life.
