Don’t scan shite just tell me where you got it changed
Although the Altima part is concerning
Locally here in Breaux Bridge. It's a conventional oil change, not synthetic. The Altima is my stepdaughters car. Her dad bought it. Blame him.

your trip is greater than five miles and you keep an average speed of at least 100mph the fuel savings will more than make up for more frequent oil changes
Who the hell doesn't know this? My gas mileage is at least 120mpg because I time travel like Doc Brown.

Now it makes sense
Although not really

10k is insane to go between oil changes. Especially with direct injection
Our 2015 Ford Edge with the 2.7 Ecoboost has gone 15k miles or more between changes at times (wife had to drive for work for a few years and isn't the best about maintenance, even when the company is paying). Over 230k miles later and it still runs great.

I changed it every 3-5k when I was beating the crap out of it. With synthetic.
That's fricking lunacy. Total waste of time.

10k miles is nothing for engine oil to last.
can it yes... but oil can break down before this and harm your engine. 5k is a better metric.
i think the better topic is proven by project farms analysis of different oils....spoiler... they were all the same. and some cost 2x the others.

You start selling oil?

Both my vehicles use synthetic. I set the interval at 4500 miles so I have some safe margin if I inadvertently run past
Posted on 2/26/26 at 2:12 pm to LNCHBOX
no... there are plenty of reports detailing the actual life span of oil.... non synthetic oil is recommended to be replaced every 3-5k. synthetic can get to 10-12 but still it also can fail early... so 5-8k is a goos range to get it changed. oil is cheap.

--I used to do that too, but once---and once was all it took--I mis-threaded the plug. Lost the oil and the motor.
After buying a used motor I went to whatever legit oil place was around. If they mess up, it's on them to fix their mess.
That’s cute of you to think the 5 minute oil change is going to be held responsible for your engine failure.

No. 3k mile oil changes are up there with the top scams of all time.
In the days of crappier oil and filters it was a solid benchmark. With today's stuff it's absurd. Especially with synthetic.

Ehhhhhhhhh it's the absolute borderline you would want to run some of the best oils with the absolute best filters. These manufacturers recommending 12k to 15k mile changes are FOS. There is no way I would run anything that long. You have to remember... they just want the car to run till it's out of warranty. These same manufacturers also say the transmission fluid is permanent. The only permanent fluid is water. It damn sure isn't transmission fluid running in a complex, fluid dependent, gearbox that has clutches in it that wears.

I guess piece of mind it’s done right for me. Think about the types of qualifications needed to work at Quick Lube, LLC. Yea, give me the wrench.

Please tell me you recommend trans fluid flushes

I don’t trust Take 5. They might say it’s Mobile1 synthetic, but I bet they pour the cheapest oil they can find in the car. Who’s going to get a sample out of their car and send it to a lab to get analyzed?

50k changes.

How the frick do you mis-thread it? You always hand thread bolts/nuts. Impossible to mis-thread.
By the way, just because the oil says it can last 10K doesn’t mean the filter will.

5,000 miles is an appropriate interval for modern engines the way most of us drive. I wouldn’t push my luck with 7500 or 10,000 miles unless it’s all highway, no towing, etc.
Obviously check it every few weeks. But even with modern oil, I wouldn’t want to take a turbo engine past that. I also would not want to take any engine that uses oil pressure to operate cam phasers or valve lifters past that. And that’s most engines now even if they aren’t turbocharged.
Modern engines typically need lighter weight, clean oil. And lighter oils tends to sneak past the piston rings and get burnt off a little easier. That means modern DI turbo engines are now even more prone to carbon and sludgy deposits on the back intake valves too.
We had a Volvo with a 2.0L turbo engine that also had a super charger. They recommended 10,000 mile oil changes and I thought that was crazy even though we never used it for towing.
