Im wanting to root my Verizon Note 2 in order to use the mobile hotspot feature. I have unlimited data and dont wont to screw that up.

Has anyone here with Verizon unlimited data had any problems from Verizon after rooting?

verizon wont know you rooted unless you bring the phone to them....or unless you tether an abnormal amount of data once you root and start using it as a hotspot.

Ok... I will research. Any particular ROM you would recommend?

its not that bad..but alot to take in.

the easiest way i can explain; google 'locks' your phone (as does apple, microsoft, etc.) so you can't do certain things to it.

these include things as silly as customizing the look of the icons or even the ability to put a 'restart' button on your phone screen that works properly.

when you get a new 'empty' phone, if you 'root' and 'unlock' it, then your phone is now open..and you'll find lots of apps that don't work on a non-rooted phone in the play store will work on yours.

there's no downside..once its open you can still get OTA updates from google..you're running your phone in 'admin' mode so to speak.

its like going from using a windows pc as a user that cant run EXE files & install flash updates to going in as an admin that can just download shite and run it. you know how annoying it is to be on a locked down pc right?

what do you lose by not doing it? honestly for most people..not a lot.

but if you do it, things like 'adaway' can be run on your phone that will kill 90% of the ads in games & apps, and of course customizing your look & feel and things like that.

xda is the site to use for this..and if you look at the steps to root your N5 on there and it scares you, just don't worry about it.

Your phone is new enough to be past some of these roots..Restart, customization etc. is in the KitKat release..If you aren't into messing with something that isn't broken, use what you have..
