Probably not.
Hospitals are loosing money like crazy with all the other services drying up.
But this too shall pass.
Have Faith.

I have been very impressed with how our hospital admin have handled this.
They have been moving staff around to keep up their hours and prevent having to let anyone go.
They've also made a ton of accommodations for providers to allow us to work from home, after hours, etc.
Depending on how long this continues I'm sure cuts will need to be made at some point, but thus far they have made it as normal as possible for folks.

“but they don't need what I provide.”
Think this also answers your question.

Could he not go help in another part of the hospital?
Depends on what his experience is in. You can’t just up and work as an ICU nurse is you have no critical care nursing experience.
I know at my hospital they have been trying as much as possible to use people for other roles where they can (ex:screening people at the entrances, being a nurse assigned to a COViD unit to just help the ICU staff properly don/doff their PPE, etc). It helps some people get their hours but won’t help everyone.

I know a lot of hospitals pull the majority of their revenue from the ER department
I can see why they aren't letting people get into overtime

Yeah I know. Wife was supposed to start a new job next week at a different hospital. They called the day before her last day at her current job and said they had to push her start date back at least 30-60 days. Luckily she currently works at Ochsner so they’re functioning retards and didn’t have a replacement lined up for her yet so they let her keep the job.
The hospital she was supposed to be starting at next week did offer her a spot for the time being in a COVID unit; but she’s very early in her first pregnancy so she understandably said that she would wait until this whole thing kinda cleared up.

In our clinic we have gone from 50-60 pts a day to roughly 10-15. At least 50% of what we're seeing now are post ops so that brings in $0.
No elective surgery.
No non-emergent imaging.
PT/OT cut to the bare minimum.
Hospitals are taking a bath right now.

Gov’t cheese is headed their way but they got tons of bills to pay to keep operational.
It’s gonna be lean for a little while, I’m sure.

So did other people just stop getting sick??
No. But there are two ways to go about this.
1. Preemptively shut down "elective" procedures, pick and choose carefully who really needs care vs who doesn't, and be less overwhelmed by COVID.
2. Continue business as usual, run out of hospital beds and equipment, and allow COVID to choose who lives and who dies.

We have to ER doctors as neighbors. They said the hospital in Bozeman is empty. I’ve seen them more in the last two weeks than in the last year.
