for most employers if you are not five minutes early, you are late.
Punctuality is big for a lot of places.
Shitty employers maybe. Aside from Mondays and Fridays (do meetings with the team then), my boss doesn't give a shite if I physically come to work so long as I'm out there doing my job making them money.

Listen to me. Go to Home Depot. Apply for a credit card and buy a mower. 45 dollars a yard. sell your arse off and you'll be in the green in no time.

Damn, well idk what to tell you then man, other than that if you really need the job right now. You could always try begging. Swallow that pride and beg.

Yeah, but I'm sure you could let yourself off if you had an emergency...
Sure. But, Ive seriously only been late for work one time in my life. Most of my travel to work varies from 100 to 1700 miles, as well. Logistics are part of any job. Ive been very fortunate to make all of my work obligations and am proud of that fact. It is what makes me semi decent at what I do.
To the OP: I was serious when I said I was sorry to hear of your termination. I could see traffic making people late for work, numerous times a year. Thankfully, I don't commute during those times.

And had just receive a 50 dollar bonus.
You had a shitty job if you only got 50 dollar bonuses. It was time for you to move on anyway. 50 dollars couldn't light a fire under my arse to simply do better just for such a minuscule bonus. All 50 dollars can get you is a halfway decent meal for 1.

Why not tell ius where you worked so we can boycott it?

So what do you do.... Jesus.

It was, and it's really a blessing, just stressed cause I don't have a job.
I had a sales job this time 6 months ago that I hated and my division was laid off as a whole. Now I'm making double than what I was doing, and I like my job and my team a whole lot more than I did with my previous company. It's stressful and infuriating now, I know, but judging from them firing you for being late twice in a year and a half and only giving you a 50 dollar bonus for good work, you need to go to a better company.

Sounds like they were just waiting for a reason.

Ah, I forgot we're on the OT.

Yeah it didn't pay much, but I did like the actual job. And I took it as inbetween job anyway and just stayed longer than I should have. I've been applying for better jobs recently anyway... it just sucks when you don't have one.

Its pretty incredible, and I'm proud of that fact. Its not like I'm saying I"m not fricking off when I get there, just that I've only been late once.

They do at this place. The first time I was late they cut my hours 40 to 28. They just started the sales competition recently, I won it every time.
I'm sorry, but if this is any half way decent sales organization, they're not going to really give a frick if you're late to work. The best salesmen don't work hard, they work smart. They know how to get the money, they know how to appeal to people, and that really don't mean being there every day from 8-5. Sure you should be working during that time since they're paying you, but sales is highly measurable for actual performance rather than just being late, unlike many other jobs that don't require any real skill set.

She didn't take the economic risk, her mother did. She inherited the business right before I got hired.. she almost never comes to work and is late all the time... she's probably the biggest hypocrite I know... and believe me I've thought of starting a competitive business several times.
You don't get it, it's HER business. She gets to run it as she pleases. If it craters then that's her problem.
Start your own business and see how sympathetic you are to your employees' criticisms.
Just because someone inherits and doesn't start a business doesn't make them an evil person. What would you have done if your family offered you a family business? You think you would have been perfect at running it?
Man up and learn from this experience. Complaining here is unbecoming of an adult.

I really don't think so. You really just have to know these people.. I saw them cut one girls hours from 5 days down to only one day a week cause they said she flirted with the customers too much and had started calling her a whore.

sick days, dude we didn't get sick days... or paid time off, or any requested time off really cause they went through new hires so quick there was never even a chance to request off. That's why when I requested off for the flooding I couldn't get off... no one to work the shift without them getting OT.
Then this is the best fricking thing that has ever happened to you. Try to call up some old colleagues (especially managers) to give you some recommendations, and then go get a real sales job where they don't give a frick what you do so long as you work hard and make them money. Sales is highly measurable if you're worth a shite or not, so bust your arse in the next job and get some well needed time off.

Dude. You do realize there are shitty bosses and/or owners? And second to third generation family small businesses are ripe for this type of behavior.
