It's not a Chain, it is a mom and pop type business.

Wasn't a restaurant either.

Right. Top performers don't get fired for being late.

They do at this place. The first time I was late they cut my hours 40 to 28. They just started the sales competition recently, I won it every time.

Sorry to hear about that, but you ought to know by now that at this point of your life, you need to realize that punctuality is VERY important, particularly for your career job. This may seem harsh right now, but maybe this will be a learning experience for you and next time you won't be late for your future job anymore. Be on time, and don't let this get to you. You live and you learn.

The basement where I had my stuff stored flooded friday evening while I was I work. I tried to request off but was told I couldn't and had to be back the next morning at 9... I got off at 11:30 and had to come home and try to get my stuff moved...I overslept.. I'm normally 15 minutes early every day.

You have those sick days for a reason.

This. If a business wants to fire somebody they will find a reason. on the other hand, if you prove yourself to be a valuable employee that would be hard to replace, you can get away with more than most.

:rotflmao:

sick days, dude we didn't get sick days... or paid time off, or any requested time off really cause they went through new hires so quick there was never even a chance to request off. That's why when I requested off for the flooding I couldn't get off... no one to work the shift without them getting OT.

Contact your boss's boss. Explain to him what you explained here and see what happens. Also, if you get back in, start looking for another job anyway. Because you will really have a bulls eye on you and your boss(who already fired you) will be looking for any little excuse. Probably not going to work but it is worth a shot and could keep you having income until you find something else.

Yeah, but I'm sure you could let yourself off if you had an emergency...

Is being on time to work important?

If you are admitted to an ER with a life-threatening injury is it OK for the attending to pick that day of the year to be late and not be there to administer treatment to you?

If you are so much smarter than the woman who took the economic risk for years to give you a place to work, then start your own business and take your old customers back.

Here's the important key-

You'll have to be on-time EVERY DAY to do so.

I'm glad I had a good dad in my life.

I never even conceived of thinking something like you have here, much less printing it in public.

Actually I think my boss stood up for me, it was the boss's boss that fired me.

Aren't you pushing 40? I mean this with all due respect but maybe you should think about a career change. People in established careers don't punch clocks. They have shite to do and they get it done. Some can do it in 30 and some can do it in 50 hours.

Look into different trades and figure out a way to be self reliant. You're playing a dangerous game.

She didn't take the economic risk, her mother did. She inherited the business right before I got hired.. she almost never comes to work and is late all the time... she's probably the biggest hypocrite I know... and believe me I've thought of starting a competitive business several times.
