Easier to get under bushes and stuff. Also ablity to edge effectively. Curved shafts are easier on the shoulders, but less versatile.

depends on how much trimming you will have to do. If not a whole, whole lot, I strongly recommend an electric weed eater.

I have an Echo trimmer and it works great and has been nothing but dependable for many years.
I also have an Echo edger and it works great and is ultra dependable too, but it is kind of hard on the back if I use it a long time.
If you have an acre and a half to trim, I'd probably look for something with a back or shoulder harness, even in a trimmer. The heads on those are ultra light so you don't need a harness for a small yard, but I'd get one if you will be toting it for an acre and a half.

my battery powered EGO can weed eat, edge, and blow my entire yard and STILL have plenty of power left after i'm finished
it's relatively quiet
