Every new Dan Carlin listener should start with Blueprint for Armageddon. IMO it's the GOAT historical podcasting series.

Completely agree. For a single episode Destroyer of Worlds is excellent.

Dan Carlin is ok, but the best historical podcaster BY FAR is Bill Whittle’s “What We Saw.”

Wrath of the Khans and Kings of Kings are incredible as well. I love ancient, pre-gunpowder history and anything about that I’m fascinated by

You may be the only person who thinks that.

"What we saw: The Cold War" by Bill Whittle is awesome. I love Dan Carlin and Bill Whittle is almost as good.

The addendum episode on the sinking of the Indianapolis is chilling and fascinating. I also enjoyed the Blitz episode on torture, "Painfotainment". Thought it was kind of funny the French used to pretty much tailgate executions like we do football games.

Eta: People that are (were?) GoT fans and listen to Dan would probably enjoy the "Hardcore Game of Thrones" videos on YouTube. Whoever the guy is that did them does a fantastic impression of Dan and goes through basically the entire history of the series. I listened to it last year before the new season came out and ruined it for everyone.

If public executions were still the norm we’d be doing the same thing.

Part of the premise of the episode is him trying to theorize if we actually would or not. It's pretty interesting.

I started King of Kings but he drones on so much about very loosely relevant topics.. after about 45 minutes of talking about Babylonians and ancient people I just got tired of it.

It’s probably because we’re so far removed from those events that it’s hard to keep up with.

Well if it was about Babylon I'd be more understanding but it's about Sparta and Persians. I get that history is incredibly interwoven, and I get mentioning things that are only distantly related do impact each other but he really gets long-winded in some things. I listened to the blueprint for Armageddon series about a year ago and loved it.
