Smart and Baptist. 2 words that shouldn't go together.

This is an LSU Tigers message board. The entire site is a defacto Catholic board.

Only 20% of BR and 22% of Louisiana is Catholic.

Did Jesus save Mary?

I'm stunned adults believe this part (Virgin Mary.) I mean no ill will against those who do it's just mind boggling to me.

She had sex. And that's okay. Just like all our parents did.

I believe in Christ conception

But Mary was born human, not God-like

Yes, now explain to me how Christ being God makes Mary holy? How it makes her sinless?

Wait, so you believe Jesus is God, but Mary isn't the mother of God. Interesting. This is like your whole ""God is omnipotent, but he can't do what he wants" thing isn't it?

No one has said that she is God-like.

This is what makes the virgin birth even more significant. Jesus had to be sinless to be a perfect sacrifice to atone for all sins. He didn’t have a human father, so sin did not get passed down to him.

This is dumb.

LSUjuice and ingeniero have covered some great points about “full of grace” and the “new ark”

I’d like to address the OP. Mary didn’t have pain during birth. Her pain came watching her son and her God suffer on the cross. This happens to coincide with the birth of new covenant with the once and for all sacrifice.

Catholics enter into the mystery of this each mass.

I’m sure the once and for all will give us more things to debate

Question, was Mary a sinner?

I've never understood the "taboo" nature of sex in the bible despite talking about often. Probably a guilt/control aspect I guess. It's just pure nonsene to think she had a kid with zero sex.

Has anyone in 12 pages addressed whether the Immaculate Conception matters or not?

Also, what's up with 4cubbies and liz being Catholic?
Do y'all have a story to tell?
Part of the atheist to trad movement?

What do you mean by this?

This is weird too. I hate to white knight for them, but what makes you assume they were/are atheists?

I don't know the first thing about either of them other than the poli board has a disliking of 4cubbies.

So why choose to call them atheists? I don't know anything about you, but I don't think I would default to calling you, oh, let's say a Muslim.

I don't know. That's why I asked.

I didn't call or assume. I asked.

Please forgive me. I'm a little too consumed by religion on the internet. I listen to Paul VanderKlay every day.

Does it matter?

Does the immaculate conception or lack thereof affect one's salvation or everyday Christian living?

I have more respect for Mary than most Protestants. Hello avatar pic! But I don't find the debate to be all that important. Unless of course her sinlessness makes her a co savior. If that is what the catechism teaches then add it to the small but important list of reasons for why I'm not swimmin' dat Tiber.

What you call "weird", some would call Scriptural. What Catholicism teaches about Mary is not. Nor was it taught for nearly a millenium after Christ's birth.
