He was making $45-75k per episode, shooting 19 episodes per year. That is $855,000-$1,455,000 per year, before endorsements, speaking fees, etc.
If you are making that kind of money in that environment, the only people you see are people that are paid to pamper you, friends, and family. When you are able to pick the people you see, you are untouched by anything bad, unless you choose to be.
