LIVINGSTON PARISH — A former St. Gabriel Police officer was sentenced to 35 years in prison on manslaughter charges after the March 2023 death of a 26-year-old man.

On July 15, Andre Reddit pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the killing of Dylan Martin. Martin was a guest in the home of Reddit’s estranged spouse when he was shot multiple times on March 2, 2023, per the District Attorney’s Office.

Reddit was a St. Gabriel police officer and was off-duty at the time of the incident.

Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to the home in reference to a triggered security system. Once they arrived, they found Martin shot multiple times.

Investigators determined that Redditt entered the home without permission, went into a room where he found Martin with his estranged wife, and shot the man multiple times. According to testimony presented at trial, Redditt fired a total of six rounds at Martin, shooting him several times in the bedroom and then again as Martin moved down the hallway to escape the home. The Livingston Parish Coroner testified she recovered five bullets from Martin’s body, and while Reddit claimed he acted in self-defense, District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said the evidence showed that he was actually the aggressor.

After the two-day trial earlier this month, Perrilloux said Reddit withdrew his not guilty plea and entered a guilty plea to manslaughter.

Judge Jeff Johnson sentenced Reddit to serve 35 years behind bars.

“This sentence holds the defendant accountable for a senseless killing and sends a clear message that no one is above the law,” Perrilloux said. “Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Dylan Martin as they continue to grieve this loss.”

Damn.

Sleeping with a man's wife, estranged or not, comes with some inherent risks though.

I really hope he was on trial for at least 3rd degree murder and the plea reduced it to manslaughter.

Louisiana does not have a "third-degree murder" charge.
