Big Mitch is slow playing this thing until the water goes down in a few days. He is not dumb. He is cocky, and sometimes a total control freak know it all arse bag, but not dumb. He grew up in politics and knows how to play the game.

Mitch interview on WBRZ just now(6pm) was great.

Highly recommend checking it out. Said he would lay his 350 lb arse down on the road.

FWIW, this also protects a lot of people in southern ascension parish, so it isn't as cut and dry as "fricking AP to save Iberville trailer park"

Said politicians still claim the overgrowth is better than an open lake holding water.

You act like the open lake is better. Why?

The lake and surrounding swamp was impounded by development. The gate was installed to provide a connection to the natural flow - which would maintain natural water levels in the lake. Sometimes wet, sometimes dry - depending on the time of year and weather conditions. Seems pretty logical to me

The only spot that held water that is now developed is the neighborhood on the curve in Burbank before seigen. This narrative that ebr has made these drastic changes that have somehow screwed over a neighboring parish is complete nonsense.

Don’t bring facts to the argument. These South EBR idiots need to throw blame somewhere.

Just curious can you still launch a boat right there by that old Alligator Bar location?

Would the natural path also include the tie in back to the Mississippi River?

Without that tie-in Spanish Lake is is just a surge drum in this.

If we’re talking facts - how much water are the dams actually causing to back up into EBR?

Are the gates open at the Alligator Bayou structure? If so, then the water is NOT being prevented from entering the Spanish lake basin.

Correct. Manchac is a protected waterway thereby preventing dredging. Thanks tree huggers...

Nah because that would only be some water being allowed into the basin. Upriver the water would cross the road and pool in the adjacent swamp.

The Spanish Lake neighborhood and other areas in/around st Gabriel are still flooded - which tells me that the entire Spanish Lake basin is full.

If that’s the case - then the gates should be open to flow into Bayou Manchac.
