LIVINGSTON (AP) - A Louisiana judge wants his ex-girlfriend to return an engagement ring he purchased along with a matching wedding band for $62,000. He also wants her to give back $30,000 to $45,000 for expenses he claims he incurred on her behalf.

Wayne Ray Chutz is an elected judge on Louisiana's First Circuit Court of Appeal. The Advocate reports that Chutz made the demand in a lawsuit he filed against attorney Ellyn Julia Clevenger last month in district court.

Chutz's lawsuit says he proposed to Clevenger in 2016, but that they never wed. The suit says she moved out last year, but kept the ring.

Clevenger said Thursday that she's not required to return the ring. She says Chutz never intended to get married; that he only gave her the ring to "shut her up" about marriage.

Admitted to practice, Louisiana, 2009. Let's say that is between ages 25 and 30, so make her 35 to 40 on her birthday, this year.

I don’t feel the least bit sorry for him. He wanted arm candy and she wanted $$. His ego couldn’t see through that.

From other thread

quote:

Clevenger said she is 42, and Chutz is 69. "There's a big age difference with us. Reading this, you could say it's a typical cliché relation of a sugar daddy. It was not like that. It was never like that," she said.

The suit also seeks reimbursement for $30,000 to $45,000 for expenses he incurred on her behalf, including the purchase of a long-haired Chihuahua named Mayzie and an Amazon Prime subscription.

quote:

The suit also lays out a laundry list of expenses that Chutz claims are "unpaid debts" Clevenger owes him. Among them are payments for the dog, insurance premiums and car repairs. She said Mayzie was a replacement for a Chihuahua killed by Chutz's dog.

She says they were never actually engaged and he broke up with her. It can’t be a gift in contemplation of marriage when they never actually contemplated marriage. That makes it just a gift, and she can keep it.

She should make a deal with him on the ring. They will spend more on attorney fees fighting,
