That'll teach him

A former Missouri restaurant manager who raped a woman a month into his probation for previously raping an underage employee has once again been sentenced to probation, leading local #MeToo activists to urge formal action against the judge in the case.
quote:
Beau Maurice Gormley, 33, of Republic, was found guilty of second-degree rape in December, Greene County court records show. Greene County Circuit Judge Calvin R. Holden sentenced him Friday to five years of supervised probation.
quote:
“This is not his first rodeo,” Fax told the judge
quote:
Gormley’s lawyer, Jason Coatney, argued that his client had not yet begun his sex offender treatment program at the time of the second incident. According to KY3 in Springfield, Gormley’s sex abuse counselor and probation officer both testified that he is making progress in his treatment.
quote:
Holden ultimately sided with the defense but warned Gormley that another probation violation would result in his being sent to prison

should never have been released.

kind of a poor choice of words.

I'm guessing it is statutorily.
He certainly shouldn't get life in prison for banging the 17 year old hostess. There would be no restaurants that remained open if banging the underage hostess suddenly became a life sentence.

He is up on charges of rape, murder, arson, and rape.
He likes rape.
And I figured this would be a Trudy White thread.

Digging a little deeper into the facts of this "monster" -
1. The first victim was a 16-year old hostess he managed. Not defending it, but no question it was de facto consensual (albeit she was not of sufficient legal age in Missouri) - to the point where she even revised her job application (at his request) to try to throw off folks about her actual age.
2. The second victim is the mother of his children who does not contest that the sexual activity began consensually.
Now, does this guy have a sexual impulse problem? Sure. And he likely misused his position to sleep with a (however slightly) underaged girl half his age.
I'm suspicious of the second victim - this may be a push for leverage in their ongoing custody/support matters (and I'm assuming there is something going on there, as she's not the wife or ex-wife, but the "mother of his children") - and he tried to call her bluff or something.
I get that "no" means "no", but that whole second incident was extremely fishy and I see why the judge leaned towards leniency.
*The above analysis by no mean condones or endorses this cat's actions or judgment. Just trying to show this isn't your typical "multiple rapist" - he's a manipulative beta trying to act alpha. He needs treatment. He needs monitoring, but maybe he doesn't need prison, yet.

Right - that's potentially obstruction of justice or a conspiracy, although I think that was for the restaurant owner, not the actual authorities. Still, speaks to an innate untrustworthiness to go along with his other character "traits".

I think he is in court ordered treatment for the first rape. If that fails and he continues this behavior, he should probably go away. Some folks you can't help.

I'm just gonna ask what progress they've seen?
Like, he hasn't raped anyone recently? Is that the kind of progress they're seeing?

Is this the “Justice Reform “ everyone is clamoring for?

Justice isn’t blind, nor is it objective.
I read opinions so on this case and find it fascinating that this guy has been prosecuted and convicted of rape twice and gets comments like “maybe he doesn’t need prison yet.” I mean, the circumstances of his rapes may be defensible, right? Maybe he’s not a monster.
On the other hand, we have brown people who cross our borders and earn paying wages to improve the quality of life for their family. They live in secrecy but in peace for years. Sorry, hombré, when you get caught, you have to give up everything you’ve built. You have to live in exile. There is no room for you in our country. Illegal is illegal.
I know these are two starkly different topics, lenient rape sentences and harsh immigration policies. But I find the differences in comments fascinating. It seems like this board can easily empathize with this guy who “banged an underaged hostess” and had “sexual impulse” problems with an ex, but can’t empathize at all with a poor guy from south of the border whose best course of action in life is to wait tables or mow lawns in a forbidden land.
