We got water but you can’t expose any open sores to it. That limits me from jerking it in the shower.

Either way, this is ridiculous. We're one of incredibly few places in the country that accept this. There's a reason Louisiana is one of the only low cost of living states that people are leaving in mass.

Heeding Lee Sheng's warnings, the Parish Council in 2021 approved her plan to increase customers' water and sewer bills incrementally over the next two decades to cover the upgrades, including to the water main that broke Tuesday.

"We knew this was going to happen. We were proactive about it. But we couldn't get to it fast enough," Lee Sheng said Wednesday.

No, he probably thinks the Utopian palaces everywhere else have magic pipes that don’t wear and tear over an 80 year period.

What’s the reasoning that it takes at minimum 24 hours to get the testing back to lift the advisory?

When they take a sample of the water they take the sample to the water quality lab, streak a few petri plates of agar containing nutrients, incubate for 24 hours and report the news.

If no e-coli colonies are formed it means the chlorine is doing it's job and the water is safe to drink.

If e-coli colonies form that means the water is not yet safe to drink. They will keep testing until a negative test is achieved.

Forgive my ignorance, do they take tests every hour or so in order to get the all clear at 25 hour or 26 hours, etc instead of waiting for it to fail and wait another 24 hours?

This is a lie. I saw a council member early this morning who had been out there all night.

No. Every 24 hours.

The test usually comes back negative after the first test and the boil advisory is lifted.

BTW, JP does daily microbiological test on their distribution system. It’s very rare to find a positive test and have to issue a boil advisory. However boil advisories are standard operating procedure after repair.

Look, the pipe they use to repair leaks and such are just sitting out in the open is some JP yard. There is no telling how much bird and rat shite are in those pipes. Sure the ends should sealed during storage but that is not guaranteed and the contractors handling and installing the repair pipe are not thinking about aseptic technique. Thus the automatic boil advisory after repairs.

At least this isn’t like flint where we’d have to answer if we want leaded or unleaded water.

Increase proeprty taxes. Keep property taxes at the local level. Stop sending so much money to BR where they can use it for political patronage.

Agree somewhat, though the schysters at the local level can piss it away just as easy.

Nah just utopian places that build in redundancies and fail safes to their utilities.

Look I commend them for being able to get it back on and have water pressure when I got home from work.

What I'm just not going to pretend that I'm ok with losing water, not being able to flush, and having to take a whores bath like a third world resident given what I pay collectively in income and property tax. Especially not when I still have to pay for private school if I don't want my kids pregnant or shanked.

More importantly is the ground water seeping into the lines through small breaks or cracks once they lost pressure. All of the piping infrastructure was compromised once the system lost pressure.
