That journalist is like 99% of them, a pussy. And he got about 99% of the facts he reported wrong.
A bruise on his shoulder - drama. Sounds like a bazzoka - drama. Full automatic - drama... and on and on!

So the guy in Florida didn't have an AR-15 and a Glock 17? I'm not understanding how your decade-old chart is relevant here.

What a pussy... F'n PTSD?
"He loves the AR-15 for cops, soldiers, hunters and target shooters. “It’s fun to shoot something like that,” he said.
Not in my hands. I’ve shot pistols before, but never something like an AR-15. Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).
The recoil bruised my shoulder. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary case of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.
Even in semi-automatic mode, it is very simple to squeeze off two dozen rounds before you even know what has happened. In fully automatic mode, it doesn’t take any imagination to see dozens of bodies falling in front of your barrel."

What is it like to fire an AR-15? It’s horrifying, dangerous and very very loud

It feels like a bazooka — and sounds like a cannon.

He admires his weaponry, yes, and has difficulty explaining why law-abiding citizens need a gun that can empty a 40-round clip in less than five seconds.
Fine piece of journalism my friend.

I bet many male journalists have had one of those in the lower left corner of the left pane up their butts.

This is partially correct, you also have to mill out a shelf inside the gun and drill a hole for the auto sear. It can be done, but it requires some tools to make it happen.
Unless you're a manufacturer of firearms or LE, you better not get caught with an automatic rifle that wasn't built prior to 1986.
Automatic rifle can be bought but they typically start at 12-15K and it will be at least a 30yr old weapon.

I've never fired a civilian AR but I've fired M4's and M16a2's many times and it's nothing like that. That AR must be a beast.

I encourage you to look through this slideshow The Truth About Assault Weapons to understand the difference between auto and semi auto guns. After you flip through this I will be happy to answer any questions that I can.
Thanks! Informative read. According to the link, AR-15s are used for hunting. What in the world do you hunt with them? Are they any more accurate than any other gun? I read that the recoil is very low, so a second shot at a deer could conceivable be had faster. I still dont see how they could be better than a shotgun if someone is in my house, but im sure thats been covered a billion times other places.
My analogy from all this is a call to ban cars with a paint job that makes it look like a race car when it performs like any other car. Seems pretty silly.

There are many different calibers chambered for an AR. Some are used for deer, some used for hogs, some for varmint hunting, etc. The 5.56 excellent for youth and ladies because of the light recall and adjustable stock. Some are very accurate, most the time the gun is more accurate than the shooter. This is typical of most guns...

That is exactly correct. Politicians and the media play on the public's lack of knowledge to attempt and force an agenda.

My son killed his first deer with my AR in 6.8 spc this past year. It's just as accurate with less recoil. One shot and the deer dropped.
An AR would be better in some instance and a shotgun could be better in others. My wife is too small to shoot a shotgun and have an effective follow up where she would have plenty of easy follow up shots with an AR. Also, I have a .300 aac with an 8.5" barrel. It's an SBR. Much easier to maneuver in a house.

Don't forget, everything is fully automatic.
They use machine gun a lot in descriptions because most people normally think of a fully automatic rifle when they hear it.
An Ar-15 is not a machine gun.

The Orlando shooter did not have an AR-15.

The Sig Sauer MCX is totally different from an AR-15, huh?
From Sig's website:
quote:
The upper is backwards compatible with any mil-spec AR lower, allowing you to upgrade your existing AR platform to the SIG MCX
But please keep being pedantic because the media is less informed than you.
