How does one become a charlatan? did his message change after becoming famous? I really don't know.

One way to quickly judge someone's ability to critically think for themselves is to see how quickly they bash Jordan Peterson. I don't see how anyone with any common sense could sit down and really listen to what he is saying and disagree

His whole message centers around individuals being personally responsible for their own actions

Most of folks I know and work with in psychology
/counseling are not big fans. But that’s largely because of knowing others who have done “on the ground” work in psych that I admire instead.

Sorry, not a fan. The fact that it bothers you so much that I don’t agree, well, says a bit more about you then it does about me.

Benzos (aka Xanax, klonopin, Ativan, etc.) are by far the absolute hardest drugs to get off of.

And the most overprescribed drug in the US.

Saying that their leader is wrong on some things is sacrilege. He makes some great points about free speech, but he is unbelievably dumb about nutrition and non psychology subjects.

Was he selling something regarding it or just describing his and his daughter's positive experiences with it? I remember him mentioning it on Rogan but stating it isn't for everyone and all that stuff.

However he may have been promoting a product of some kind that I'm not aware of.

True; however, he did say that it worked for him, he never promised it’d work for everybody. His core message never changed though.

I’m just a bigger fan of guys like Aaron T. Beck and Robert Sternberg.

Beck is 98 but is literally the guy that created Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. And his Beck Depression Inventory is one of the most widely used assessments for depression in a clinical setting.

That’s why it’s “depressing” that Peterson is considered so influential when he’s typically rephrasing/analyzing others work.

Whew, thanks for coming unprovoked into this thread about Jordan Peterson to tell us how much you don’t care about Jordan Peterson.

For Peterson? Ego and drugs and problems at home.

He was a small time college professor, social theorist, and author. He was a well intentioned man with a small following.

The machine broke him. As it does so many.

He was thrust into the national spotlight and it melted him.

He began developing an ego early, especially after he started hosting national lecture videos, but he kept it in check for the most part.

When he learned the term “intellectual dark web” and the machine grouped him together with Shapiro, etc... was really when it started.

Rather than continuing to be a teacher and educator, he saw himself as a leader and something more than a man. It was rough to watch. Especially if you were a fan of his before it started.

He became more watered down and commercialized and his videos had less message and more marketing and then he just imploded.

There is definitely a value that you have to attribute to being able to put into words complex thoughts and feelings and Peterson is certainly able to do that very well.

People in social work/counseling/psych should hate him. Which only reinforces his value to everyone else.
