I haven't read everything in this thread or news, but I get the feeling he's the type to make up an elaborate lie to either make the family suffer more or to feed his ego.

That's what he did that got him the extortion charges. If he thought he was doing that now, he was not successful. The family was all smiles that this is finally over in their minds.

Now that we know she was left in the shallow surf, what are the theories about not recovering a body? Rip currents? Sharks?

If he only waded out knee deep, you'd think shed be back on the beach within minutes unless the tide was rolling out.

I don't know. I guess if someone studied all of that at the time, it might be explained. This is what makes me believe he got help and took her out further in a boat or in some way, but he's protecting whoever helped him. His father is long deceased, but there were rumors about him helping.

Much like what happened to Dahmer after he turned to Jesus, I hope God tells one of his fellow inmates to relieve Van der Sloot of his life.

He probably was still able to satisfy his ego though. He just a got a plea deal that could potentially make him a free man in his mid-50s, likely without divulging the whole truth of what happened.

He's a manipulator of people. His own mother once quipped that he should've been an actor because of all the lies he told. I'm sure he's quite pleased that his current story is being taken at face value, especially by the Holloways.

Hopefully they'll be at peace with him at least admitting guilt. I'd like to think I'd rather not know all the gory details if it was my daughter/wife/whatever, but there is always that part of you that says look even when you know it won't make anything better.

So the statute of limitations for murder in Aruba is only 12 years?

So I’m guessing sharks ate her body with all the blood coming from her head? Otherwise it would’ve been easy for her to wash up.

Also I guess the tide came in? He was able to clean all the blood overnight before anyone was on the beach?

Kneed him but was still on the ground to take a hard kick to the head?

I’m not saying I have followed enough to have any real grasp on the details but he does strike me as the type to just say stuff and the story felt weird while reading it. Awful if true, awful if a lie… just a terrible terrible person.

It’s ridiculous because it literally removes a lot of the accountability. It’s a major tourist destination so any random traveler could murder anyone there and leave for 12 years and 1 month and then return to go lay on the beach again.
