It’s been tough to listen to but still listening at work which I never do, always leave it in the car.

and it sounded like Steve was breaking down as soon as she hung up and they were saying "eat it everyday"

The show just ended...very sad. Steve could barely say "eat it everyday".

That sign off just now after John’s wife spoke...... somebody must be cutting onions over here in the office.

I listened on and off all morning. I’m shocked at how rough I’m taking it. That last bit with Lainie and Steve breaking up at the end. Trying not to tear up at my desk in the office
Having lost my own father earlier this year, this seems like a double blow. Never in a million years would I have thought of him as a father figure in my life, but it sure feels that way.

Same here, I never get worked up over a “celebrity “ death but this one is tough
My allergies are really acting up at work...
ETA: sorry for your loss

I grew up listening to them with my dad on early morning fishing trips. On and off through college and then again when I started my own career. Seemed like they had to find a new niche once nipplegate happened with JT and Janet and the FCC(?) laid down all the new rules i.e. telling someone they were on the radio prior to a prank, etc. I agree the Obama years were tough to listen to at the same time. Started listening again after my dad died in 2014.
RIP JW
RIP JW

Yep that was really hard to listen to, but it was an awesome tribute. His wife held it together really well. God bless her. The end really hit me hard.

yeah that was tough. Kudos to Steve for maintaining his composure for so long this morning. Surprised he was able to hold it in for so long.

I grew up in rural SW LA. My grandmother lived in Mandeville, so we’d make frequent trips. Long weekends, school vacations etc. I remember my brother finding them on the radio on B97 and listening every Mandeville trip.
I remember the Walton and Rumble days, and a period before or after without JW on the air. My dad was an avid WWL radio listener even way out in my little town. One afternoon driving with him, the David Tyree show came on. Filing in was John Walton. I vividly remember the feeling of hearing his voice after what felt like an eternity without.
I’m sad to know I won’t hear it again.

Much like the Simpsons, their 90s was the primo stuff.
Remember the good times, not when John Kerry started driving em down a darker path.

Did they say what he actually had?

I believe I heard them say cancer at one point... but that was like right after I woke up so my not yet fully functioning brain may have misheard it
I think I heard them say he got diagnosed with cancer but he never got a PET scan so they never knew fully what kind

No, but his wife made it sound like something lingering that was ignored.
My guess is a late cancer diagnosis
However, Steve and ken were adamant about hey thought he would be back and reiterated that today. They thought it was something he could fight through.
The whole thing is so sad. A little over a month ago you could hear in his voice he was sick and wasn’t quite himself. then he finally stopped working. They came back after a week or so with Ken, saying every day Walton would be back and this was just temporary. They said it on monday when he passed.
Sobering reminder to cherish your loved ones and not take your time together for granted.

from what I gather, he was pretty disenchanted with the medicos after going through that with is son, I'll be pretty much the same, no bitterness towards docs, just whatever happens, happens, I've had a pretty good run, RIP

Didn’t Kid Kraddick also suddenly pass away?

oh it was no secret he didn't have a very high opinion of doctors & drug companies in the cancer fight following his son's death
