"The Old Story Teller" when he'd do his best Walter Brennan impersonation and tell the stories.
My favorite was the story about the kid that wanted a puppy and called it "Stains".

Either they read this board daily or a lot of posters got their topics from the show. There was way too much overlap to be a coincidence. Either way, RIP John.
Been listening to since I was a wee lad. I’ll give whatever new iteration they continue with a chance. Hopefully Kenny can grow into the part of that’s the route they go.

quote:Not really. I don't know how the ratings haven't tanked.
And it doesn't hurt that his long-time cohosts are VERY popular with the masses. Big Al and Kelly Rasberry have a shite ton of fans on their own two legs.
Kidd forced them into comedy bits / situations. Now the show is almost nothing but celebrity gossip. There was plenty of that before but it was mixed in with comedy and kidd forcing them into situations and poking the beehive. Now it is E! The Radio Show. Kidd made the show funny. Now it is a celebrity love fest.

How much cash you think they made doing the show?

RIP radio gawd! You will be missed!

Eh they were just as pissed off and bitter as the left media folk you mock now, you just agreed with their view point.
They wouldn’t even try to reign in their callers at all back then
Caller: I heard Obama is about to pass a law and they’re going to come round up our guns next month
Them: Yep!
Disagreeing with the other side is one thing but they lost any semblance of rationality somewhere along the way and just became contributors to the current level of toxicity that political discussion has become,
I think they just got old and grouchy. I remember listening to them waayyy back in the day and they were fun and funny. Had some fun bits, like the young Scotsman song.
The few times I came across them on the dial in recent years, they just seemed very bitter.
Anytime someone with such strong opinions in one direction passes away, I always think, well, now he's found out if he was right.

Damn man I haven't listened to them in YEARS, but I used to love listening to both these guys early in the mornings before I go to school in the 90s. Didn't even know John Walton was sick to begin with. That definitely sucks. RIP Walton. I'm thankful to have heard you on the radio and kept me entertained.

There's a little bit less hate in the world now.

I really used to enjoy the show, before it became nothing but a political rant. RIP

John brought me a lot of joy over the years.
I remember losing track of him when I left Louisiana for college. Then, one day I was driving down 30th Avenue in Gulfport and I suddenly heard a vaguely familiar Midwestern voice break in over "Jump!" by Aerosmith:
"Go ahead, buddy. Do it. Jump... Yeah, I'm talking to you, pal... I know about all your problems. Crappy job. Mean slob of a wife. What are you waiting on?"

He definitely closed things out with 3-4 good, much less bitter years. RIP.

Easily the worst radio show I’ve ever heard. Loud and wrong about everything.

Totally thought he was about to be back.
Their politics were spot on.

I have fond memories listening to Walton and Johnson years ago with my Dad as we drove to the deer camp early in the mornings. Remember Dad laughing his butt off trying to keep the truck between the lines. Been a while since I listened but will always have those memories.

You’ve obviously never listened to Bob and Tom

Will there be a funeral service for the 10 percenters? What's Kenny's last name since he is sadly going to be part of the new show moving forward. Johnson and Twink?

Way too political so I’m glad the show is over, sad for his family though
