Love his music and the Beatles. But over the years I’ve grown to respect him less and less. He was a hypocrite and a shitty father.

Thanks for letting us know not to take your music opinions seriously from here on out.

There isn't a more textbook answer than "The Beatles" for "who was the best band ever?". It is the default answer automatically parroted by every single person without a brain to that question. When I hear that, I immediately know I'm dealing with a person who does not think for themselves, who just repeats the response that he's been told is supposedly the correct answer. It's the only answer where I instantly know to discount this person's opinions on everything because they do not think for themselves.

Lots of dummies in this thread. The Beatles are the standard against which all others are judged. And it's been that way for 6 decades. Time is the greatest test, and the world still clamors for anything Beatles related. They shook the world...and it's still shaking. Wise up.

All personal things aside, there was a lot he did I didn’t agree with, the Beatles had a huge impact back then. I was in the first grade when they went on the Ed Sullivan show and my older sister and I were sitting in front of the tv switching channels because I wanted to watch the Scarecrow on the wonderful world of Disney and she wanted to see the Beatles.

We watched the Beatles when they came on and switched back to what my show. I love my sister for that.

But the Beatles evolved during my growing up years and were an influence on music. They didn’t do concerts but put out music that reached beyond what was considered rock and roll. The songs and lyrics came from things they saw or read and they converted them to music and incorporated orchestras and such to deliver them.

It was great music and no detractors can take away what that group did for those of us who had the good fortune of growing up to genius.

John marched to his own drum, but I appreciate what he helped bring to me in my life.

Back then, who would have thought some of their music would be elevator music now…haha..
