I am blown away by this and I never knew about the 10,000 high ranking nazis officials who fled to Brazil, Argentina and Chile. I always thought they were killed in World War II. Now there are 50 colonize German towns in South America who only speak German and all their ancestors were nazis.

There’s a theory that Josef Mengele ended up in Brazil and kept experimenting

quote:

According to some commentators, about the time of Mengele's arrival in southern Brazil in 1963, the incidence of twins began to increase, allegedly leading to the current rate of twinning at 1 in 10, over half of whom are dizygotic (fraternal).

1 in 10 in a single town.

Who did not know this?

What cave have you been living in?

Germany was destroyed 1944-45. Germans who could afford to moved to Canada, the US, and South America after the war. Some were Nazis, most were not.

A lot of Nazi war criminals went to Spain where they were protected by the Franco regime and could not be extradited. Some Nazi war criminals moved to live in the German communities in South America where they hoped they would not be noticed.

Keep in mind, not all Germans were Nazis (most were not) and not all Nazis were war criminals (most were not).

While most Germans were not Nazi Party members, and most Party members did not directly participate in atrocities, almost everyone had some level of knowledge of what was taking place. If not the details, the broad outlines. The Nazis didn't seize power, they were voted in. And most people approved, or at least were willing to look the other way, as long as things were going well. The myth of the Good German is just that, a myth.

Also a town down there started by southern people that fled the US after the civil war, I’ve seen some film taken from there, it’s like going to some redneck town in Georgia.

And thank those Nazis for their fine genes. There are some beautiful women down there as a result of their contributions.

Argentina has a lot of Italian influence and I don’t think the Italians get nearly as much shite as they should for supporting the Nazis

While this is a relatively well known historical fact, what is not so well espoused, among laymen anyway, was the Catholic Church's role in helping those 1000's of Nazis obtain "legal" visas. Both Eichman & Mengele went through several "Church routes" to escape capture. And am curious as to facts/stats showing most Nazis were not war criminals, accepting hopefully that one did not have to pull a trigger or drop a pellet of poison gas to be proclaimed a war criminal. MANY of the leaders of the killing squads in the East were led by doctors & lawyer types. Was the Nazi mayor of a small town who played a major role in helping to round up the town's Jews for the death camps a war criminal? And fwiw, the Allies declared that all members of the SS were members of an outlaw organization & branded them all war criminals. Do the math on those numbers alone.

"The Italians" didn't support the Nazis ,but Mussolini and his Fascist government did. Wasnt Mussolini expelled from office ( very unpopular leader) and the new govenmnent joined the Allies and declared war on Germany?

Anyone not living under a rock knew this..

A few years ago, I was eating at a Mexican restaurant on Bluebonnet/Perkins. Our waitress had a German accent and I asked where she was from..

Paraguay was her answer.

My first thought was: I know what your grandfather was doing in WW2.

They were fooled by propaganda and a fear of the spreading Bolshevism across Eastern Europe (completely rational fear) along with a deep hatred for Western Europe over Germany getting screwed after WW1, wrecking the economy. Hitler was a fantastic speaker and said all the right things, and despised communism. The bold revolutionary tactics made by bolshevists caused the Nazis embrace of the police state and militarism to be attractive in order to protect Germany from falling to communists.

Goebbels I believe was more anti Semitic than Hitler himself was initially and from what I've read, Goebbels got close to Hitler and used Hitlers fear of communism to convince Hitler the Jews were behind the spread of Bolshevism. Goebbels then used propaganda to convince the German people of this, and since the population feared communism, they now saw the Jews as the perpetrators of communism, and were more than willing to go along with the arrests of Jews by the Nazis.
