from how LPOTL talked about their spotify money, it was life changing. i can only imagine how much they paid for Rogan
Rogan + Ringer = owning the podcast industry
like somebody said (may have been in my thread if it's not on page 1), Apple may remove/ban Spotify now
we're about to have Netflix/Hulu/Amazon-like licensing wars

I’d much rather him just do ads that you can’t skip through if he wants more money
I'm guessing they offered him way more than he'd be able to do ad wise on his own. Its worth more to them having that exclusivity than it is to advertisers, especially right now.

I've had spotify for close to 10 years, it used to be desktop only for free but mobile you had to pay for premium. Not sure how they do it now

This is not something to brag about.
Was it a brag?

you can stream free even on mobile
if you want to download anything so you don't stream (like you have data caps), you have to have Premium

yeah all these investments are to destroy the non-spotify podcasting networks/outlets
either you create your own army of exclusives or give up, basically

Props to Joe for securing the bag. I will welcome him to Texas when he buys a massive ranch.

Why not? Should one be considered inferior or stupid or something if they don't have Spotify? Or know anything about it?
I mean in general as a rule of thumb it’s silly to brag about not knowing about things
Spotify is a massive company that has been the best music streaming service for close to a decade now. If you’ve been that out of the loop on dirt cheap music, that’s on you.

there's a chris rock joke that i'm not legally allowed to reference here

Good for Joe. This will be great because I won't have to keep the video up to be able to listen on my phone like I do with youtube. Maybe he will go back to truly streaming live now?

So no video? Or does spotify stream that as well?
Says they will still have YouTube clips
Spotify has said they want to get into the video side of things, part of the reason they bought the ringer. They’ve played around with music video or music video features in the app already, I’m sure full on video capability is around the corner

Yeah it’s probably worth way more under a brand than freelance. Barstool is under a dispute with one of their shows shopping around because the hosts ONLY make 500k/yr guaranteed plus merch and download bonuses

can't convince my old man to give up pandora for spotify

Rogan is a brand tho. One that is probably bigger than Barstool alone. There’s nothing new that Spotify offers him besides more guarantees and probably less leg work on the podcasts.
The salaries you are talking about are closer to 1 episodes worth of revenue for Rogans pod than it is to what he is making before this deal

I remember pimping Spotify on this board when it first started picking up steam most believed they would tank quickly with their business model
Back then it was completely free for student and it took them like 8 years for them to ever take me off the student discount plan lmao

probably also similar to netflix in that they don't want to eventually be held hostage by licensing agreements so they want to start owning some content

The Joe Rogan Experience will soon become a Spotify exclusive, meaning episodes’ full audio and video will only be available through the platform starting later this year.
