I worked for my grandpa each summer from freshman year of high school until he passed my junior year of college. He owned a department store. I learned a ton working for him. He was an absolute grinder. I made alot of great memories working in his store.

First job ever was working in a Train A/C warehouse. Loading and unloading AC compressors in a collared shirt in the summer.

In Jr. High School I worked for a guy that raced Greyhounds.
I would let them out of their kennels and feed them everyday after school for $3.00 an hour.
Training with live rabbits on the weekends was some pretty wild times until his neighbors ended up getting that shut down.

Worked in a hospital gift shop, worked construction, kept score at little league games…. Those paid.
Cut grass, worked on a tree farm, and anything my grandfather needed all for free.

Several fast food jobs but the best by far was pizza delivery.
Also painted AC units on top of my dad’s office building for a month one summer in the Texas heat. Fun times.

Lifeguard. I did sports and my dad was the coach...basically was the job. Lifeguarding in the summer time was the only job I ever had for pay until my senior year I won a writing contest and became a sports beat writer for the Commercial Dispatch in Columbus. I would do 1-2 games a week at $25/article.

Worked at Mary Lee's on Greenwell Springs in 1980. Best job I ever had, hours were rough, 4 am to noon Sat/Sun. Me and my best friend, some girl who was 17 and Iranian named Akbar.

Started cutting grass and shoveling snow in the neighborhood starting around 11 or 12 years old. Once I hit 14 when sports were off season I'd bag groceries at the Giant Eagle grocery store that was close to the house.
Later in high school, after getting my license, I got what was probably the best job of my youth. I played youth tennis for a while before I moved on to other sports. A pro that I took lessons from also worked at my high school and got me a job working at a country club in the tennis pro shop. I spent most of the time either working members through drills outside of their lessons or just playing with them if they didn't have a playing partner to pair with or needed a doubles partner. I was basically the assistant "playing pro". It was either that or cleaning up the shop or doing racquet restringing. Lots of active time outside, nice environment and people, easy responsibilities.
I did that for three summers and whenever I could pick up time during the school year. Sadly, I didn't leave with any stories of young lonely housewives needing the companionship of a assistant tennis pro. Then again, I'm not exactly attractive, so that may have been a factor.

Grew up in South East Arkansas. Worked in tomato fields, hauled hay, mowed yards, pulled rice levees, pressure washing logging equipment. From the age of 12 there was always a way to make money if you were willing to work.

Sounds like we had similar childhoods. Holding something right for your dad [especially a light]should be allowed on any resume. This was a skill learned over time with many arse chewings.

First job was at a Blockbuster Video when I was 16. Loved going to work.
Funny side story: I made it a habit to tell customers what day movies needed to be returned since new releases had a shorter rental period. So I would usually repeat the movie name out loud and the day it needed to be returned. So one night a lone guy walks up with 2 movies to rent. I usually didn't look at the titles as i was checking them out just to save time. So when i rang him up I stated out loud in front of a line full of people: "OK, sir The Perfect Storm is due back Tuesday by 6, and Playboy's Wet and Wild 7 is due back Friday by 9". He turned ghost white, didn't say a word and walked out. That was the last time i repeated a customer's rentals.

Washing small airplanes one summer. Got paid $20 to $25 per plane. Took me about 3 hours or so, lots of surface area when you really think about it.
It was before I had a license. Mechanic lived across the street and asked me. Lots of older people with planes. I washed planes 3-4 days a week. Several times I went up with the owners flying around Houston.
When my dad found out I had been up flying in some of those planes.. my plane washing career came to a screeching halt.
