It's out by the airport. It would be a painless commute from Central or Zachary though.

You should see record houses for sale in Zachary with the 3 plant closures. You can probably score a nice house on the cheap as a result. However, long term forecast may be okay for the investment but if its a short term plan of less than 5 years, it may not be wise.

My employer offered me the opportunity to open a new office for the company in Baton Rouge, I respectfully declined. After suffering through most of the 90's in Shreveport there is hardly an ammount of money that could get me to move back to La.

This. Central and Zachary are suburbs that are still within EBR Parish, but have their own school systems which are among the best in the state. If you have kids and aren't a tremendous bar fly, that area would be perfect to live in as traffic heading into and out of town from the North is exceedingly rare.
If you don't have kids, and want to be closer to the action, I would recommend living in Mid City or the Garden District somewhere around Government Street between Park and Foster. Those areas are walking distance from a lot of ammenities and restaurants, and while there will be some traffic coming home on I-110 near the 10/110 split, it can be avoided by exiting at S.22nd Street by Memorial Stadium. That stretch isn't the safest, but it's not dangerous to drive through during the day and early evening.
While Coke is not in a great neighborhood, due to traffic patterns, it's only about 10/15 minutes away (even during heavy traffic) from several great places to live, and even places with good public schools, a real rarity around Baton Rouge.

What does building homes do if ther is no one who can pay the mortage? BR needs more industry to provide jobs.

i hadn't heard of these areas prior to reading this thread. thank you all for the suggestions.
